How do Prince William and Kate Middleton celebrate New Year’s?
Although Prince William and Kate Middleton have, in the past, switched off between their families on Christmas, it is clear that their future holiday celebrations will likely always occur at Sandringham House with the rest of the Mountbatten-Windsors. After all, Prince Harry is well on his way to becoming the heir to the British throne. With that in mind, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge typically plan their New Year’s Eve festivities away from those with royal titles. How do Prince William and Kate Middleton celebrate New Year’s? Find out, ahead.
They celebrate with Kate Middleton’s family
After spending a majority of the holidays with Prince William’s side of the family, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spend New Year’s Eve with Kate Middleton’s family at their home in Berkshire, England.
They once rented a 100-person tee-pee style tent
The Middleton’s apparently go all out for New Year’s Eve and often host a big celebration at their home. One year, Pippa Middleton (Kate Middleton’s sister) rented a 100-person tee-pee style kata (used by reindeer hunters) for the ultimate winter wonderland backyard party. This party was the couple’s first New Year’s Eve celebrated together.
There is a dance floor
No party — especially New Year’s Eve party — is complete without a dance floor. Apparently, the Middletons are known for ringing in the new year with a lavish celebration, complete with a dance floor.
This year could be a more low key New Year
Although they are known for their parties, the Middleton family New Year’s Eve Party might not be as crazy as New Year’s past. With two young babies in the family (Prince Louis and Pippa Middleton’s baby, Arthur) they could have a more low key celebration this year.
How does the royal family celebrate New Year’s Eve?
Prince William and Kate Middleton aren’t the only royals with New Year’s Eve plans. While they might not celebrate together, the royal family still likes to ring in the New Year in style. Up ahead, we take a closer look at how Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and other members of the royal family welcome a new year.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip
Once the family leaves Sandringham House (where the royals celebrate Christmas every year), the queen and Prince Philip invite their friends and other family members to stay for the New Year. On New Year’s Day, they attend a church service, then Queen Elizabeth typically spends the rest of the day riding her horses.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle like to travel for New Year’s Eve. And, this year, the two allegedly took off without telling anyone (though that is probably dramatized a bit). Some speculate the parents-to-be are spending some much-needed alone time in Monaco, where they rang in the New Year last year. Others say they are staying somewhere closer to home, as Meghan Markle likely doesn’t want to travel as much in her last few months of pregnancy.
Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles
After Christmas, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles head to Scotland to ring in the New Year at their Balmoral Estate home, Birkhall.
