When Will Prince William and Kate Middleton Tell Prince George That He Is a Future King?
Despite living in a palace and working for the queen, Prince William and Kate Middleton try their best to lead more normal lives. They drop their children off at school, they grocery shop, they cook — they do all sorts of things that are perceived as “normal,” only they know that they aren’t.
That said, they want their children to live blissfully behind Kensington Palace gates, unaware of their status and future for as long as possible. After all, Prince George wants to be a police officer when he grows up — they aren’t about to squash his dreams!
When will Prince William and Kate Middleton tell Prince George about his destiny? Find out, ahead.
Does Prince George know he’s going to be king?
When Prince William first found out about his royalty and place in the line of succession, he was far too young to carry such weight. According to reports, the Duke of Cambridge did not take the enormity of his role in the world lightly and it put an enormous amount of pressure on him. Because of his own struggles, he and Kate Middleton have decided it’s probably best to wait until Prince George is a little older.
“As far as we are concerned within our family unit, we are a normal family. I love my children in the same way any father does, and I hope George loves me the same way any son does to their father,” the Duke of Cambridge revealed in an interview. “We are very normal in that sense. There’ll be a time and a place to bring George up and understand how he fits in, in the world. But right now, it’s just a case of keeping a secure, stable environment around him and showing as much love as I can as a father,” he added.
When will Prince William and Kate Middleton tell Prince George about his future role in the monarchy?
The interview took place in 2016, in honor of the queen’s 90th birthday — which means Prince William and Kate Middleton might have had a chance to tell their son since then. However, at just five-years-old, it seems unlikely that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge find him old enough to share who he really is with him.
If Prince William and Kate Middleton haven’t told their son yet, they likely won’t until he is old enough to understand what it means. However, it’s possible that some of the children at Prince George’s school know who he is — or will know once they are a little older — and could reveal his fate to him accidentally.
It’s unclear what the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s plans are for telling their son (especially in terms of the risks), but given their hands-on nature, they will likely be there to support their son and help him understand that he is not alone in this role.
