Prince William Calling Meghan Markle These Two Words Began His Rift With Prince Harry, Source Says
Like any relationship, siblings can have ebbs and flows in their bond. Prince William and Prince Harry were always extremely close growing up. They are just three years apart and because their late mother, Princess Diana was very hands-on, they both had very modern childhoods compared to most royals.
The brothers grew closer after the tragic death of their mother and even during the younger prince’s wild-child years, they never abandoned one another. However, from the moment Prince William was born, he’s been on a very different path than Prince Harry.
This specific destiny has forced him to view things from one perspective, a burden that Prince Harry never had to bear. These differing outlooks came to ahead in 2016 when the Duke of Sussex met his now-wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Unfortunately, two choice words about Meghan used by Prince William effectively ripped the brother’s bond forever.
Prince William and Prince Harry have been rebuilding their relationship
For the past several years, Prince William and Prince Harry have been drifting apart. Though they clearly still love and respect each other, they now have very different priorities. In ITV’s Harry and Meghan: An African Journey, Prince Harry revealed,
We’ll always be brothers, and we’re certainly on different paths at the moment, but I’ll always be there for him, and he’ll always be there for me. We don’t see each other as much as we used to because we’re so busy, but I love him dearly, and the majority of the stuff is created out of nothing, but you know, as brothers you have good days, you have bad days.
The Sussexes currently live in LA while the rest of the royals remain in the U.K. However, amid the coronavirus pandemic, the brothers are repairing their relationship via video calls and check-ins.
Prince Harry and Prince William have very different perspectives on royal life
Meghan is often blamed for Megxit. However, the truth of the matter is, as the spare to his heir brother, Prince Harry had been fed up with royal life for quite some time. Their different perspectives seem to stem from Princess Diana’s death and the royal family’s relationship with the press. ITV anchor Tom Bradby explained to Good Morning America,
The real difficulty is they just have entirely different parallel narratives about a whole bunch of stuff. One of which is about their mother’s death. Harry feels quite simply that the press killed his mother and is now in danger of trying to damage his wife. William has a more nuanced view of that. He thinks that yes, their mother did have a very hard time, but also she made a mistake in allowing the press in and he just is absolutely adamant that that shouldn’t happen and he thinks that sometimes his brother is too open and then tries to close up, and that doesn’t work.
Prince William’s feud with Prince Harry began after he called Meghan Markle these two words
The day that Prince Harry met Meghan in the summer of 2016, he was immediately smitten. After several months of courtship, the duke was overjoyed and excited to introduce her to his family. Unfortunately, his brother did not give him the support he’d expected. Prince William referred to Meghan as “this girl.”
“Don’t feel you need to rush this,” William told Harry, according to sources quoted in the book, Finding Freedom by Carolyn Durrand and Omid Scobie. “Take as much time as you need to get to know this girl.” For Prince Harry, it was the last straw. He heard a “tone of snobbishness” that was “anathema to his approach to the world” from his own brother.
The palace aides were also wary of the duchess. “Meghan had often been the topic of conversation and gossip among them, When she arrived in the prince’s life, one senior royal referred to the American actress as ‘Harry’s showgirl’.” Other aides felt that she came with too much baggage and was untrustworthy.
