Revealed: Prince William and Prince Harry’s Kensington Palace Split Is Really Happening

Last fall, sources close to the royal family revealed that a potential split is underway. And now, it appears the divide between Prince William and Prince Harry could actually happen. If the early reports are true, the Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex will split their households within the next few weeks, marking the end of an era for the royal brothers.

Here’s what we know about the Kensington Palace split, including how it will change the royal family and if it has anything to do with Prince William and Prince Harry’s alleged feud.

They shared a royal household for 10 years

Prince William and Prince Harry have worked together and shared a royal household for a decade. But, now Prince Charles’s sons have their own families and their own lives separate from their brotherhood.

The split would happen before Baby Sussex’s arrival

With Meghan Markle’s due date quickly approaching, the pressure is on to make a decision about their royal households. If the rumors are true, the royal split would happen ahead of Baby Sussex’s arrival in late April or early May.

They have different royal responsibilities now

One of the main reasons for the split? Their royal responsibilities no longer line up. As Prince Charles gets closer to becoming the next monarch, Prince William is preparing for his new role as heir to the British throne (and future King of England).

After getting bumped to sixth in line, Prince Harry’s royal duties look vastly different. He will continue his philanthropy work alongside his wife, but also focus on living a more “normal” lifestyle and raising his children.

The Sussex family is moving to Windsor

Ahead of their royal baby’s arrival, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have plans to move into a renovated 10-room mansion on the grounds of Windsor Estate. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex fixed up an old building called Frogmore Cottage, which once served as staff housing.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle won’t move their office

Despite their move, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle still plan to conduct business from Kensington Palace. Their office will remain at Kensington Palace, close to the royal family’s headquarters at Buckingham Palace.

The Cambridges will become Prince and Princess of Wales

Once Prince Charles ascends the throne, Prince William and Kate Middleton will become the Prince and Princess of Wales. In doing so, they will take on the same responsibilities that Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles currently have. When this happens, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will take over Prince William and Kate Middleton’s current duties.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have their own ambitions

While they might have to take over some of their brother and sister-in-law’s responsibilities, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are allegedly “ambitious about forging their own paths.”

They discussed split households before the royal wedding

Some claim that Prince William and Prince Harry’s recent tension could have caused the royal split (and the big move to the countryside). But, apparently, the Dukes discussed the possibilities before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding last spring.
