Prince William Questioned Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Relationship Because Of His Own ‘Dilemma’ With Kate Middleton
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry enjoyed a blissful first year together, but there was a time when Prince William questioned their marriage. William reportedly had doubts about Markle following their quick engagement and told Harry that he should take things slowly. The advice may have driven a wedge between the brothers, and royal experts believe that William’s concerns were really a reflection of his own struggles with Kate Middleton.
Prince William doubts romance with Middleton
Although they have been married eight years, William seriously doubted if Middleton was the one on two separate occasions. According to Express, William ended his relationship with Middleton in 2004 and 2007 because he needed space.
Royal expert Angela Mollard believes that Prince William questioned if the relationship was going to stand the test of time and wanted to be absolutely sure before tying the knot.
“William is a very dutiful man,” Mollard shared. “He himself, in his relationship with Kate, when that had been going on for many years, he had to question himself, whether or not this relationship was going to last the distance.”
Prince William, of course, got back with Middleton shortly after their second split. The couple finally got engaged three years later and exchanged vows in 2011. They got married around ten years after meeting each other in college, which is why Mollard believes William cautioned Harry about moving too fast.
After all, Harry and Markle really did not know each other when they decided to get married. Mollard claims given Markle’s age, it was evident that they needed to move fast if they wanted to start a family together. Unfortunately for Prince William, Harry did not take his words of advice kindly.
Prince Harry takes offense
The royal family has never openly talked about the feud rumors between Prince William and Harry, though Mollard believes there may be some truth to the reports. Given William’s history with Middleton, it would not be that surprising if he gave Harry advice prior to the engagement. William has always been close to Harry and would have likely thought he was acting out of a kind heart.
For whatever reason, Harry was reportedly offended by his brother’s words and did not speak to the Duke of Cambridge for months after the ceremony.
Part of the reason why Prince William struggled so much with Middleton was because of his father’s divorce from Princess Diana. Prince Charles and Diana tied the knot in 1981 — after meeting in 1980 — and parted ways in the ’90s. As second in line to the throne, William did not want to repeat his father’s mistakes and thought his parents could have benefited from taking their marriage slower.
When he saw Harry and Markle moving quickly, he thought they were falling for the same trap and advised Harry against taking the relationship to the next level. Fortunately, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s marriage has been great so far and is showing no signs of cracking.
Queen Elizabeth had second thoughts about Middleton
William was not alone in his doubts about Middleton. In her 2010 book, William and Harry, author Katie Nicholl revealed that Queen Elizabeth seriously questioned Middleton’s work ethic before getting to know her.
At the time, Elizabeth and Middleton had only met a few times, and Her Majesty reportedly thought she needed a career before marrying into the royal family. Nicholl claims that Elizabeth believed Middleton spent too much time vacationing and needed a real job to represent the royal family. Considering how Middleton will sit beside Prince William when he becomes the King of England, Elizabeth’s concerns were valid.
Luckily, things have worked out for all parties involved. Middleton went on to do a lot of work for the royal family and has seen an increase in her workload over the past few years. Not only does she work hard with a number of different charitable organizations, but Middleton has also taken on royal duties alongside the Queen. The Duchess of Cambridge may have once been devoid of a serious career, but she has since made up for it.
As far as Harry and Markle are concerned, they have not commented on their rumored feud with William and Middleton. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently getting ready for their fall trip to South Africa, marking their first official tour as a family of three.
Prince William has not commented on the royal experts claims about his feud with Prince Harry or his relationship with Kate Middleton.
