Princess Beatrice’s Friends Are Extremely Concerned for Her Amid Prince Andrew’s Scandal

This should be a beautiful time for Princess Beatrice. She’s recently engaged to her fiancé, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and she’s planning her wedding for 2020. Unfortunately, this has never been a worse time for the princess and her family.

Princess Beatrice’s father, Prince Andrew, was just caught up in a massive scandal involving his friendship with the late financier, Jeffrey Epstein. The prince and Epstein were close friends for 20 years — with their bond continuing after 2008 when Epstein was convicted of soliciting a minor for sex.

Though Prince Andrew desperately attempted to distance himself from Epstein following his suicide this past summer, his attempts were futile. After a bombastic interview with BBC’s Newsnight and one of Epstein’s alleged victims, Virginia Roberts, accusing the prince of abusing her too — Prince Andrew has officially relinquished his royal duties and stepped away from the spotlight.

“It must have been incredibly hard for the queen, his mother — Andrew is widely regarded to be her favorite son — but she recognized that there was a huge amount of damage being done to the monarchy,” Royal expert Kate Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. “He had no option, the queen had no option, but for Andrew to step back from royal duties.”

Though the entire British Royal Family is horrified by all of this, no one is more devastated than Princess Beatrice.

Princess Beatrice initially thought the BBC interview was a good idea

After Prince Andrew insisted on doing the interview with the BBC in an attempt to clear his name, Princess Beatrice stood by her father’s. Unfortunately, she had no way of knowing how disastrous the interview would be or how egotistical her fighter would come off. Mirror Online reports,

Sarah [Ferguson] was abroad so Beatrice sat in on the discussions. She was asking lots of pertinent questions and had her doubts. But by the end of the meeting, she was convinced by the Newsnight team and Amanda Thirsk [Duke’s then-private secretary] that they had no choice – that it was the only way to put all the rumors behind them. Both Sarah and Andrew rely on Beatrice’s judgment a lot when it comes to dealing with the public as she’s got an old head on young shoulders. You can’t really blame Beatrice because I think the odds were stacked against her on this one. Andrew, Fergie and Amanda decided they had to do it. In fact, Beatrice has been in tears every day since the interview went out.

Despite all of this, the royal family is rallying around Princess Beatrice and her younger sister, Princess Eugenie. They will continue on with their limited royal duties.

Princess Beatrice canceled her engagement party

Just ahead of the holidays, the princess and Mozzi had planned a stunning engagement party on Dec. 18 at the Chiltern Firehouse in London. However, Princess Beatrice canceled it last minute for fear that paparazzi would swarm the venue. “This would be a private matter and we would not comment on it,” Buckingham Place said in a statement.

“The family is very disappointed in the situation,” an insider told Entertainment Tonight. “Everyone right now is concerned about Bea. Poor Bea. She deserves to have the wedding she wants and the public is going to go nuts [because of her father].”

Princess Beatrice has had to change her wedding plans

Though she’s scheduled to get married in 2020 — Princess Beatrice has not yet set a wedding date. When she does get married, her big day won’t look anything like her young sister, Princess Eugenie’s. On Pod Save The Queen, Daily Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers revealed, “It will be in a castle I imagine in the hills of Italy, somewhere where there won’t be any press, maybe one release of a photograph.”

Though the royals have rallied around the princesses — there is nothing to be done about the absolute media frenzy and chaos that Prince Andrew has caused for his reserved and scandal-free daughters.
