Does Princess Charlotte Wear Hand-Me-Downs From Prince George?

Princess Charlotte and Prince George might be little royals, but they already have to adhere to the regal dress codes and rules of the British Royal Family –at least when they are in public. If you notice, Prince George is always photographed wearing shorts –often paired with long socks. In contrast, Princess Charlotte usually wears smock dresses with Peter Pan collars, matching hair bows, and Mary Jane shoes.

Since Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are fairly close in age –it seems astounding that they would never wear hand-me-downs. Does Princess Charlotte wear Prince George’s hand-me-downs?

Does Princess Charlotte wear Prince George’s hand-me-downs?

Though we see Princess Charlotte in her signature dresses and Mary Janes when she’s in public –we’re sure that the rambunctious tot has a more relaxed wardrobe when she’s at home in Kensington Palace. She might even wear some of her big brother’s old clothes.

In fact, the princess was photographed in a navy-blue cardigan for the royal family Christmas photo which happened to be one of Prince George’s old sweaters. One royal fan wrote, “It’s lovely to see Prince George and Princess Charlotte wear the same cardigan. Just because they are royals they can’t share clothes? Recycling is good. I don’t know how anybody could claim it isn’t… The Cambridges are very understated and that’s positive in my opinion.”

Princess Charlotte’s royal wardrobe rules

There is no specific royal rule that prevents little princesses in the royal family from wearing pants or shorts. However, the smock dresses and Mary Janes have simply become a royal tradition.. Royal expert Marlene Koenig told BAZAAR.com.

If you look at photos of young royal girls from Princess Anne to Charlotte, you will notice that they tend to wear smocked dresses as little girls when they are in public with their parents. There are no rules about no pants. If the duchess is in a dress in public and Charlotte is with her, most likely Charlotte, at this age, will be in a dress — also in formal portraits, or on the balcony for the Trooping of the Colour.

Prince George’s royal wardrobe rules

Since Queen Elizabeth II isn’t too keen on little boys wearing pants –we’ve only really seen Prince George in shorts and bloomers –though he did sport some tuxedo pants at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s May 2018 wedding. The royal tradition of little boys wearing shorts dates back to the 1500s.

Ingrid Seward, the Editor-in-Chief of Majesty magazine, told People, “It is shorts until you’re 8 and then ‘woo, you’re in long trousers. They suddenly feel very grown up. It is considered very suburban for a little boy to be in long trousers when he is just a little boy.”

Does Prince Louis wear Prince George’s hand-me-downs?

Provided that Kate Middleton and Prince William have saved Prince George’s baby clothes –we expect to see Prince Louis wearing them as he’s photographed more often. After all –at the rate that babies grow, the Duchess of Cambridge would be sending out for more baby clothes every other day.

If Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have a baby boy –Baby Sussex might even wear some of Prince Louis’ old clothes.
