Princess Diana’s Secret Nickname for Prince Harry Mocked Royal Tradition

It’s obvious that Princess Diana was a devoted mother to her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

Although there was a significant amount of turmoil within her marriage, and tension between her and other members of the royal family, she did her best to ensure that her boys were raised in the best environment possible. She had a very special relationship with each of the boys and was especially close to her youngest, Prince Harry.

A recent news story reveals that she had a sweet nickname for the redhead that the rest of the royals definitely wouldn’t have approved of.

In September 1984, Princess Diana gave birth to her second son, Henry Charles Albert David, better known to the world as Prince Harry. Since Princess Diana had already produced an heir to the throne in Prince William, there was much less pressure on her to have a boy the second pregnancy. In fact, Prince Charles reportedly very much wanted the baby to be a girl, and when news arrived of Prince Harry’s birth, the royal said, “Oh God, it’s a boy.” Needless to say, his words were a blow to Princess Diana.

As the “spare,” Prince Harry’s course was less certain than his older brother’s. As such, Princess Diana became very close to him, and many royal sources have claimed that the two had a special bond, beyond even the standard of mother and son relationships.

Princess Diana reportedly didn’t want her youngest son to ever feel less than, since so much was made of Prince William, and would go out of her way to do fun things for him and give him extra affection.

What was Princess Diana’s nickname for her youngest son?

A recent news story dived deep into Princess Diana’s unique relationship with Prince Harry and the way she challenged royal conventions. According to sources, Princess Diana didn’t really think much of the traditional line of succession and even expressed the opinion that Prince Harry would make a better king than his older brother.

Robert Jobson, a source close to the royal family, states that Princess Diana used to call him “GKH,” which stood for “Good King Harry.” Still, Princess Diana mostly kept these thoughts to herself, and never publicly challenged Prince William’s ability to rule.

Princess Diana was notoriously fond of nicknames, and would often refer to Prince William as “Wombat,” and Prince Harry as “Ginger.”

Would Princess Diana be happy with how Prince Harry is doing today?

Princess Diana tragically died in 1997 as the result of a fatal car crash. She never got to see her sons grow up into their roles within the royal family, but still, there’s no doubt that she would be very happy with both of them and what they have accomplished. Prince William has gone on to marry his college sweetheart, Kate Middleton, and have three children.

As for Prince Harry, while he had some controversial moments while in the public eye, he has found his perfect life partner in his wife, Meghan Markle. The two welcomed their son, Archie Harrison, in May, and very shortly, will be making their first trip as a family of three to Africa, to continue the charity work that Princess Diana pioneered many years ago.

Although Princess Diana isn’t here to see her children and grandchildren, she helped to set the standard for their parenting styles and relationships with the public in a way that is unlike anything seen before in the royal family.
