Princess Eugenie Hates This 1 Surprising Thing About Royal Life
Princess Eugenie has spent her entire life in the spotlight. Though she will never become queen –she’s still an official royal family member with a title that dictates a great deal of her life. Though the princess has never had to deal with a personal scandal herself — that doesn’t mean she’s gone totally unscathed in the public eye.
When she was just a little girl, her mother –Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, was caught up in a massive cheating scandal in 1992, which officially led to the princess’ parents’ divorce in 1996. Though the Princess of York has always staunchly defended her mother –that wasn’t the last time Fergie’s antics drew ire from the press or the public.
Princess Eugenie and her older sister, Princess Beatrice, have also had to deal with harassment and bullying from the press, surrounding everything from their style to their weight. In fact, upon Duchess Meghan Markle’s arrival into the royal fold — many tabloids tried to pit the princesses against her.
Still, despite all of this, Princess Eugenie has taken everything in stride. In fact, there is only one thing she really hates about royal life.
Princess Eugenie hates her royal title
Though she’s tenth in the British Royal Family’s line of succession –Princess Eugenie is not a fan of her prestigious royal family titles. She works a regular everyday job and hates being called “Princess.”
In a 2008 interview with journalist Georgie Greig —Princess Eugenie revealed, “I don’t like talking about it much and find it annoying when people say things like, ‘Oh, you’re the Princess.’ One of my best friends jokingly says, ‘Hi, Princess,’ and I say, ‘Shut up.’ “It is one of the things that bugs me most in the world.”
Princess Eugenie doesn’t believe in a “perfect” royal image
It’s important for Princess Eugenie to live her life on her own terms, even though she is in the spotlight. She’s the only royal to have a personal Instagram page. In a 2018 interview with her sister, Princess Beatrice, for Vogue U.K. she revealed,
We want to show people who we are as working, young, royal women, but also not to be afraid of putting ourselves out there. Nowadays, it’s so easy to recoil when you see a perfect image on Instagram – but it’s important that it’s real. We’re real. We’ve had some serious grounding from our parents. They’ve had their fair share of terrible media interest and it makes us stronger. We believe very strongly in who we are, and the support system of our friends and our family is pretty incredible.
Princess Eugenie and Meghan Markle aren’t feuding
Since Meghan Markle stepped in the spotlight and virtually stole everyone’s attention –many people assumed Princess Eugenie had a strong dislike for her new cousin. This also came to a head in November 2018 around the Princess’ wedding day when Markle announced her pregnancy. However, the truth is, there are no issues between the women.
In fact, the princess reached out to the duchess for guidance on her wedding day. Express U.K. reported last year, “Princess Eugenie and her fiancé Jack Brooksbank made a trip to see the couple around a month ago for Meghan to help the bride-to-be with her wedding plans.”
There’s no drama here.
