Princess Eugenie tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend, Jack Brooksbank, in October 2018. Although she is a cousin to William and Harry and very from far off from ever taking the throne, her wedding was still a massive deal in the United Kingdom. It was televised, and plenty tuned in to watch the princess get married. But there was one part of Eugenie’s wedding that made it far more intense than Harry and Meghan’s May 2018 affair.
Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank in 2018
Eugenie and Jack met when the princess was only 20 years old. She was on holiday at a ski resort in Switzerland when Jack caught her eye; he was 24 at the time. The couple made their first appearance together in 2011, and the relationship has grown ever since. Even while Eugenie briefly lived in New York, the two stayed together and made the long distance work. Eugenie was only gone for a couple of years and eventually moved back to her home country of England, and the two started to truly picture a life together. In January 2018, while in Nicaragua, Jack proposed to his girlfriend. Since royals tend to have fairly short engagements, the couple set their wedding date for October of the same year.
Her dress code was ‘extremely strict’ according to several sources
All royal weddings have a dress code of some caliber, but Eugenie’s was stricter than Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s. Men were not allowed to wear regular suits. Instead, they were required to wear morning coats — basically, they had to look even fancier than they would at any ordinary wedding. In contrast, Harry and Meghan specifically wanted guests to wear lounge suits, which meant they could get away with a regular, every day suit. Meghan and Harry wanted an overall more relaxed vibe than Eugenie and Jack. Women had to wear day dresses and hats to Eugenie’s wedding, but one guest wasn’t feeling a dress that day.
Cara Delevingne even had to ask special permission to wear certain clothing
Eugenie had an A-list guest list, which included model Cara Delevingne, a good friend of the princess’. Cara had asked Eugenie’s permission to wear a suit to the wedding, since her dress code had said that was not permitted. But Eugenie was relaxed, despite what the invite implied, and told Cara she could wear the suit. Cara said she had texted Eugenie for permission, and Eugenie replied, “Of course, I expected nothing else from you!” It’s nice to know the model got permission before showing up in such a distinct outfit.
Eugenie isn’t on the same royal level as William and Harry, but she is still adored
Eugenie isn’t quite the same royal as her cousins, William and Harry. She has fewer royal rules to follow, which explains how she was able to move to New York for two years. She is also one of the only royals with an Instagram account. Despite not being on the same level as her cousins, the public still loves her. She is frequently in the spotlight yet gets to live a bit more of a relaxed life — basically, she’s the ideal royal.
