Proof That Kaley Cuoco Is a Bad Actress Who Got Lucky with ‘The Big Bang Theory’
Kaley Cuoco – a beloved star among The Big Bang Theory (TBBT) enthusiasts – pulls off Penny with sharp comedic timing and convincing characterization. However, she’s got many strikes against her when it comes to the acting front. Though she skyrocketed to stardom with the success of TBBT, the actress may struggle to find stable work in Hollywood moving forward.
Before starring on the hit, CBS show that many affiliate with the actress, Kaley Cuoco portrayed Bridget Hennessy on ABC’s 8 Simple Rules. She starred on this show until cancellation due to low ratings in 2005.
What many who do not follow the star often forget, or neglect to realize, is, before The Big Bang Theory and after 8 Simple Rules, Cuoco starred on Charmed alongside Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano, and Rose McGowan. Which brings us to our first piece of proof that she’s not the best actress: her character on Charmed was unbearably unconvincing and consistently felt forced. Let’s start there before getting to her several small roles in straight-to-TV movies.
Kaley Cuoco played Billie Jenkins on the 8th season of Charmed, and it was rough
Kaley Cuoco’s performance in this role begs to ask if the actress has come a long way, or if she purposefully ventured away from more dramatic roles, feeling less comfortable in them.
In the 8th season of Charmed, Billie is forced to confront the fact that she and her sister were brainwashed by evil demons and tricked into doing their bidding; she is forced to kill her sister who does not come around to the truth to protect The Charmed Ones.
When her sister dies, Billie falls to her knees in despair; however, it feels so forced and unnatural that it takes away from the gravitas of the moment. This scene is cringe-worthy, as you beg for it to end and return some semblance of dignity to the actress.
In one of the show’s most vital moments, Cuoco reminds viewers that their watching television; thus, the scene fails to retain any emotional impact. Feel free to scroll through different videos on youtube; type in Kaley Cuoco Charmed and click away; they are all equally disappointing. One fan of the show stated that she loathed Billy and that she “made the show suck.” This opinion joins others arguing that her acting was “appalling” in the series.
Kaley Cuoco won two Razzie Awards for Worst Supporting Actress
Kaley Cuoco won two Razzie awards for her performances in Alvin & the Chipmunks: Road Chimp and The Wedding Ringer. If there’s anything that says “you did an awful job,” it’s a Razzie.
While some actors take Razzies with pride (remember when Sandra Bullock accepted hers in person?), also claiming rights to Oscars and Golden Globes, Cuoco has yet to earn an award of such caliber. She has never even been nominated for an Emmy Award for her role as Penny.
Kaley Cuoco can’t land big roles outside of ‘The Big Bang Theory’
Kaley Cuoco has failed to make a splash in a Hollywood hit, and while Indie film producers and directors will often approach her, they don’t always want her for the lead role, according to The Richest.
Cuoco often does voice-only parts in major movies, and they are not A-list quality. Kaley Cuoco starred in Fat Like Me in 2007 and Author’s Anonymous in 2014, the latter of which currently boasts a whopping 7% Critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. And If you haven’t heard of either of these, you’re not alone.
While some may argue that Cuoco has yet to catch a break, her presence on such a hit show should have opened doors; and if it has, she’s failed to walk through the doorway successfully. So, whose fault is that?
Most of her roles outside of TBBT have been comedic, and, even in those, she often fails to deliver. While fans of the star want Cuoco to stay an “It girl,” she may just not have the “it factor.”
