How Does the Queen Feel About Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Friendship With George and Amal Clooney?
George and Amal Clooney have become key members of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s inner circle. And, although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex must use the royal family’s communications office to comment on feuds and other stories circling the tabloids, George Clooney has no problem using his platform to stand up for his royal friends.
The American actor has gone on record twice now to discuss the frenzy surrounding the Duchess of Sussex. And while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle likely appreciate the gesture (after all, they are the ultimate royal rule breakers), we can’t help but wonder what Queen Elizabeth thinks of their friendship with the power couple.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s friendship with George and Amal Clooney
Prince Harry and George Clooney go way back. The two allegedly met at a charity event before the Duke of Sussex met his wife. As things got serious between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, he introduced her to George and Amal Clooney and the foursome quickly became good friends.
They were invited to the royal wedding
The Clooneys were invited to the royal wedding last spring which sparked a lot of attention around their friendship with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. George and Amal Clooney showed up at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle all smiles for their friends’ big day.
They vacationed together
Following the royal nuptials, the couples vacationed together at George and Amal Clooney’s Lake Como residence, Villa Oleandra. And it was there that Meghan Markle and Amal Clooney became the great friends they are today. According to The Daily Mail, while Prince Harry and George Clooney enjoyed a game of basketball, the women stayed home and played with the Clooney’s twins, who were 10-months old at the time.
Meghan Markle and Amal Clooney have the same hairdresser
Amal Clooney also gave Meghan Markle some guidance when she first moved to the United Kingdom — and even recommended a top hairdresser for the new royal. “Amal put Meghan and me together when she moved here,” celebrity hairstylist Miguel Martin Perez told The Daily Mail. “I do her color, her cut, and her styling,” he added.
Amal Clooney accompanied the duchess on a trip to New York
In February, Meghan Markle jetted off to New York City for a girl’s trip and lavish baby shower — and Amal Clooney was there for it all! She might have even helped Serena Williams (who is also close with the duchess) pay for the baby shower.
Amal Clooney was one of the dozen close friends that gathered to celebrate the royal baby at The Mark Hotel in Manhattan. And, following the celebration, she and Meghan Markle boarded a private plane — which the Clooneys paid for — back to England.
George Clooney stands up for the duchess
It’s no secret that Meghan Markle has had a hard time with the press in her first year as a royal. And, her close friends agree. George Clooney even went so far as to stand up for the Duchess of Sussex on several occasions.
According to CNN, George Clooney commenting on the tabloids while promoting Catch-22. “They’re just chasing Meghan Markle everywhere, she’s been pursued and vilified. I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to see that. She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she is being pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was, and it’s history repeating itself. And we’ve seen how that ends.” He also made note of the letter the Duchess of Sussex wrote her father. “You’re taking a letter from a daughter to a father and broadcasting it everywhere. She’s getting a raw deal there, it’s irresponsible. I’m sort of surprised by that,” he said.
Does Queen Elizabeth approve of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s friendship with the Clooneys?
It’s unclear whether or not Her Majesty is a fan of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle hanging out with George and Amal Clooney. However, some suggest the queen might feel concerned about Meghan Markle’s powerful friends and the influence they could have on royal protocol.
“This group of friends are [sic] going to be telling Meghan to not listen to what some stuck up, boring members of the royal households are telling you,” royal commenter Dan Wootton said of Meghan Markle’s overall friend group (which includes Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, Priyanka Chopra, and other influential women). He went on to suggest that some of them might also give the duchess publicity advice and encourage her to stray from the family’s rules once she fully settles into her role. “The fact that she is prepared to keep these people around her shows that she’s going to make some real change,” he added.
