Do Queen Elizabeth and Meghan Markle’s Mother, Doria Ragland, Get Along?

Queen Elizabeth is extremely protective over her family. If she doesn’t approve of someone, she makes it known. (Hence why Prince Charles wasn’t allowed to marry Camilla Parker Bowles back in the 1980s.) And with Meghan Markle still new to the royal family, it makes us wonder: How well do the queen and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, get along?

The queen reportedly has a good relationship with granddaughter-in-law Meghan

Harry and Meghan didn’t date for very long before he asked the queen for approval to marry her. But it seems that the queen was smitten with Meghan from the get-go. In fact, the queen broke royal protocol to allow Meghan to spend the holidays with the family before she and Harry were married. (Typically, nobody is allowed to spend that time with the royal family unless they’re a member of the family.) Meghan also supposedly fell in love with the queen’s dogs, which probably helped the queen approve of her. And so far, Meghan has done well at her royal role, which likely makes the queen proud.

Before Meghan and Harry wed, the queen invited Meghan and her mother to tea

With only 24 hours until the royal wedding, Doria Ragland was still meeting several members of Meghan’s soon-to-be husband’s family. Doria and Meghan reportedly joined the queen and her husband, Prince Philip, for tea the day before Meghan and Harry’s big day. Although it was the queen’s first time meeting Doria, it showed that she was making an effort to get to know Meghan’s family. And clearly the queen respected Doria enough to invite her, which shows she probably liked Meghan’s mother before the two even met.

There were reports that the queen invited Doria to spend Christmas with the family, breaking royal protocol

In the royal family, Christmas is a very important holiday. And it was reported that for Christmas 2018, the queen once again broke royal protocol by inviting Doria to spend the holiday with the royal family. The queen has only been known to do this once before with someone outside the family — and that was Meghan. Sending Doria an invite meant that the queen respected her enough to break her own royal rules for her. However, there were also reports that the invite never officially happened. With the royals, it’s difficult to get the full story, but even if she wasn’t invited, it doesn’t mean the queen dislikes her.

Doria isn’t around the royal family too often, but it appears she and the queen have a good relationship

Although Doria doesn’t spend too much time with the royal family, it appears she and the queen have a solid relationship. They have only met a handful of times, but if Doria is anything like Meghan, she probably is very well-respected by the queen. It’s unclear if the two will get together any time soon, but it’s possible that when Meghan’s new baby arrives, Doria will head over to the U.K. to spend some quality time with the newest addition to the family.
