Queen Elizabeth Reportedly Made Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Feel ‘Sidelined’ in the Royal Family

Royal fans often speculate about the relationship between different members of the royal family. After Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior royals earlier this year, many people wondered what could have happened with other royals that made them want to distance themselves from the rest of the family.

According to the book Finding Freedom, something did, indeed, happen between Harry, Meghan, and Queen Elizabeth. Reportedly, Harry and Meghan felt “sidelined” by something Her Majesty did.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle allegedly left the royal family because of their position in the hierarchy

Finding Freedom, which was written by royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, noted that one reason Harry and Meghan decided to step down was because of their position in the royal hierarchy.

Harry is currently 6th in line to the throne, behind Prince Charles, Prince William, and William’s 3 kids. As a result, much of the monarchy’s focus seems to be on those who are higher up the line of succession than Harry.

Finding Freedom alleged that Harry and Meghan, despite their popularity with the public, felt “overshadowed” William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Harry and Meghan also were said to have felt that staffers often prioritized William and Kate’s work over the Sussexes’.

Queen Elizabeth also reportedly made the Sussexes feel ‘sidelined’

Additionally, it seems Queen Elizabeth may have added to the Sussexes’ frustration as well. According to Finding Freedom, Harry and Meghan felt “sidelined” by the queen and the royal family. This came after it was revealed Her Majesty did not have a picture of Harry and Meghan on her desk. However, her other family members were included.

“Harry felt as though he and Meghan had long been sidelined by the institution and were not a fundamental part of its future,” Scobie and Duran wrote, as reported by the Mirror. ” In the Green Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace, where the Queen delivered her address, viewers glimpsed photos of the Cambridges and their children, Charles and Camilla, Prince Philip and a black and white image of the sovereign’s father, King George VI.”

The authors continued, “Noticeably absent was a photo of Harry, Meghan and their new baby, Archie.”

Scobie and Durand noted that, according to insiders from the palace, “the photos were chosen to represent the direct line of succession.” However, Harry and Meghan still saw it as a “sign that they needed to consider their own path.”

While there are rumors that Her Majesty might be upset with Harry and Meghan for stepping down as senior royals, the queen actually released a statement to support the Sussexes after they left.

“My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family,” she said. “Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”
