Queen Elizabeth Resented Prince Charles and Camilla Parker’s Union for This Reason
It is hard to believe that Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall have been married for just about 15 years now. The royal couple is obviously happy, and Camilla is a great addition to the royal family.
Although we don’t see them nearly as much as we do the other royals, it is not to say that Prince Charles and Camilla don’t carry out their royal duties with dignity.
Fans can remember when Prince Charles and Princess Diana were married like it were just yesterday. Princess Diana was a fan favorite, and still is to this very day. She was absolutely dedicated to her role as the Princess of Wales, and fans lined up by the thousands to catch a glimpse whenever she would make an appearance.
Although royal fans miss Princess Diana dearly, these days, they also love seeing Prince Charles and Camilla during royal events, and they seem to be a perfect couple. Yet, one important person didn’t always think so. Here is why Queen Elizabeth resented Prince Charles and Camilla’s union.
A marriage that was never destined to last
Prince Charles and Princess Diana had a difficult marriage, to say the least. From all outward appearances, Princess Diana seemed as happy as can be, but behind palace walls, it was a different story.
Prince Charles was unfaithful during the marriage, and princess Diana knew all about his affair. As if this weren’t bad enough, the future king was somewhat of an absentee father, which made things that much more difficult for his wife as well as his kids.
In fact, many fans aren’t even completely convinced Prince Charles and Princess Diana were in love when they got married. In their engagement interview when they were asked about it, they famously found ways to avoid answering the question.
Throughout the years, Prince Charles’s extramarital affair continued, and the royal couple finally went their separate ways in 1996, a year before Princess Diana’s tragic and untimely death.
The true love of Prince Charles’s life
Prince Charles and Camilla first met in 1971, and they were instantly smitten with each other. According to Elle, she was the one that Prince Charles had loved from the start, and he was actually forced into his marriage to Princess Diana.
Why is this? Well, the royal family saw her as more of a “suitable” future queen, and a better wife for Prince Charles. They never took into consideration either Prince Charles or Princess Diana’s happiness, and consequently, the union was doomed.
Even though Camilla married someone else, the prince never stopped loving her, and she obviously felt the same way about him. Princess Diana even went so far as to say in an interview that there were “three people” in her marriage, and it was clear that she knew that Camilla was actually the love of Prince Charles’ life.
It wasn’t until 2005 that they finally got married in a small ceremony that wasn’t attended by Queen Elizabeth, and Camilla officially became part of the royal family.
Queen Elizabeth resented Prince Charles and Camilla’s union for this reason
Prince Charles is Queen Elizabeth’s first-born child, and many people would assume that she wanted nothing more than for him to be happy. So, why did she resent his relationship with Camilla, who he loved so deeply?
Well, according to Daily Mail, her majesty thought Prince Charles was putting “love before royal duty,” and she didn’t like it one bit. Although she gave her blessing for the two of them to get married, it didn’t mean that she was enthusiastic about the idea.
The queen had a hard time forgiving her son for the past, and although she didn’t attend the wedding, Camilla has since been accepted into the family and is loved by everyone.
