Queen Elizabeth Snubs Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Not Once, But Twice on Christmas
Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas Day speech is usually a highlight reel for the royal family. But with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spending the holidays in Canada this year, Her Majesty subtly snubbed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex twice in her speech. Here’s a look at Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas Day speech and why Harry and Meghan were given the cold shoulder.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle skip Christmas
Members of the royal family gather every year to celebrate Christmas at Sandringham, but this year there were a few faces noticeably absent from the festivities. At the top of the royals who missed out on the holidays were Harry and Meghan.
Instead of spending Christmas with the royals this year, the couple flew to Canada to celebrate the holiday away from the UK. This was not the first time a royal has skipped Christmas, but the timing of the couple’s decision could not have been worse.
A few months ago, Harry and Meghan opened up about their struggles in a documentary titled Harry & Meghan: An African Journey. While Meghan admitted that dealing with British tabloids has been rough, Harry all but confirmed his rumored feud with Prince William.
Despite all the drama, Queen Elizabeth was expected to mention Harry and Meghan in her speech, mainly because they welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison, earlier in the year. So when Her Majesty seemingly snubbed them twice in the same speech, it immediately raised some eyebrows.
Inside Queen Elizabeth’s photo snub
The first apparent snub came in the form of some missing photos. During her speech, Queen Elizabeth sat next to a table that had a bunch of royal family photos resting on top.
According to TMZ, Harry and Markle’s photo was missing from the collection, as was Prince Andrew’s mugshot. Prince William and Kate Middleton’s family photo was included, however, which left fans convinced that Queen Elizabeth was taking a dig at the Sussexes.
There is little doubt why Andrew was not included in the photo collage. Andrew recently stepped down from his royal duties in light of his controversial connection to Jeffrey Epstein.
But it is a complete mystery why Queen Elizabeth did not showcase a photo of Harry, Meghan, and Archie. Considering how this is Archie’s first Christmas as a royal, you would think that a photo of him would have been featured.
Then again, it is no wonder why Queen Elizabeth remarked how 2019 has been “quite bumpy.”
Queen Elizabeth snubs the Sussexes in her speech
In addition to the missing photo, Her Majesty also failed to mention Harry and Meghan’s name in her speech. She did, however, give Archie a shout-out, noting that she and Prince Philip were thrilled to welcome another member into the family.
“Two hundred years on from the birth of my great, great grandmother, Queen Victoria, Prince Philip and I have been delighted to welcome our eighth great-grandchild into our family,” she stated
Queen Elizabeth went on to talk about how people can often find unity in shared religious beliefs. But she did not say anything about Harry and Meghan.
The snub has sparked even more rumors about what is really going on behind the scenes. While the reports continue to swirl, Harry and Meghan could not be further from the action this holiday season.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle take a holiday break
Since back in November, Harry and Meghan have been taking a much-needed break from their royal duties. For Christmas, Buckingham Palace recently confirmed that they spent the holidays in Canada with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.
“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are spending private family time in Canada,” palace officials revealed. “The decision to base themselves in Canada reflects the importance of this Commonwealth country to them both.”
The Sussexes are expected to remain in Canada until 2020 before returning home and resuming their royal duties. It is unclear when they will be back in the public eye, but they seem to be enjoying their break from all the madness.
Although they have remained largely silent during the break, they did share a quick holiday photo last week. The couple released an adorable Christmas card that featured Archie front-and-center, with Harry and Meghan smiling in the background.
Harry and Meghan have not commented on the rumors surrounding Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas Day speech. The royals typically remain tight-lipped about these types of matters, so it will be interesting to see how things unfold.
