Queen Elizabeth Will Be ‘Devastated’ and ‘Feel Betrayed’ by Meghan Markle’s Recent Claims, Royal Expert Says

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s recent claim in legal documents that she didn’t feel protected by the royal family when she was pregnant likely won’t go over well with the queen, one royal expert believes. The concerned royal author claims Queen Elizabeth will be left “devastated” and “feel betrayed” by Meghan as a result.

The duchess felt attacked by the media

During an interview for the 2019 documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Meghan explained how her friends had warned her about the tabloid attention that would come with her relationship with Prince Harry.

“It’s hard. I don’t think anybody could understand that,” she said. “In all fairness I had no idea, which probably sounds difficult to understand here. But when I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy but my British friends said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great but you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life.’”

Meghan further shared how it had been “complicated” since she wasn’t used to that kind of media attention.

“I’ve said for a long time to H — that’s what I call him — it’s not enough to just survive something. That’s not the point of life. You’ve got to thrive, you’ve got to feel happy,” Meghan said at the time. “I think I really tried to adopt this British sensibility of a stiff upper lip. I tried. I really tried. But I think what that does internally is probably really damaging.”

“The biggest thing that I know is that I never thought that this would be easy, but I thought it would be fair and that’s the part that’s really hard to reconcile,” she added.

Meghan claims she was ‘unprotected’

In legal documents filed by Meghan’s team in her lawsuit against the Mail on Sunday, the duchess was asked to explain why she was “vulnerable” when the newspaper printed a private letter she wrote to her father.

“The Claimant had become the subject of a large number of false and damaging articles by the UK tabloid media, specifically by the Defendant, which caused tremendous emotional distress and damage to her mental health,” her legal team explained.

Further, the legal documents noted, “As her friends had never seen her in this state before, they were rightly concerned for her welfare, specifically as she was pregnant, unprotected by the Institution, and prohibited from defending herself.”

The queen will be ‘absolutely devastated,’ expert claims

In response to the claims made in the legal documents, royal author Phil Dampier told The Telegraph that he believes the queen will feel “desperately betrayed” and “devastated.”

“I think the Queen is going to be absolutely devastated by this,” Dampier explained. “She’ll cope with it but she will feel desperately betrayed.”

He continued, “She broke with protocol to invite Meghan to Christmas at Sandringham before they were married, and the couple ended up with a beautiful multi-million pound home in the middle of Windsor Great Park. Some will be wondering: what more did they want?”
