Queen Elizabeth Will Honor Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Christmas Speech Despite Holiday Snub
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not spending the holidays with the royal family at Sandringham this year, but Queen Elizabeth still plans to honor them in her annual Christmas speech. Although the royals have been through a lot of scandals this year (chiefly Prince Andrew’s controversial interview about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein), there is one thing Queen Elizabeth will mention that is directly related to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – and it may have been the highlight of her year.
Queen Elizabeth to honor Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
There is no doubt that Queen Elizabeth would love to get 2019 behind her as quickly as possible. Apart from Andrew’s embarrassing interview, Harry and Meghan shocked royal fans around the world when they opened up about their struggles in the documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey.
In his interview, Harry seemingly confirmed that he and William have been feuding for the past year. Meghan followed that up by admitting that it has been a real struggle adjusting to the royal life, especially when it comes to dealing with British tabloids.
The Sussexes stirred up even more drama when they declined Queen Elizabeth’s invitation to spend Christmas at her estate in Sandringham. Members of the royal family gather every year to celebrate Christmas with Her Majesty in what is a pretty special time of the year.
Harry and Meghan have spent the past two Christmases at Sandringham, but this year, they are spending the holiday with her mother in Los Angeles. Despite the snub, it sounds like the couple will still be mentioned in Queen Elizabeth’s upcoming speech.
Queen Elizabeth to highlight the arrival of Archie Harrison
The birth of Harry and Meghan’s first child, Archie Harrison, has been one of the highlights of the year for the royal family. According to Express, Queen Elizabeth will likely mention the birth in her Christmas Day speech – though Andrew will probably be left out entirely.
“The Queen often refers to highlights of the royal year and Archie’s birth will be noted I am sure but she tends to concentrate on the wider picture and with the election so recent that may be the focus in a season of thanksgiving,” Richard Fitzwilliams, an expert on the royals, shared.
Fitzwilliams added that Queen Elizabeth will likely emphasize unity throughout the speech, which will also include elements of her Christian ideology. Considering everything that has happened in British politics in recent months, she will likely include a bit about where the country is headed as well.
Queen Elizabeth has been giving her annual holiday speech ever since 1957. Unlike some of her other speeches throughout the year, she actual writes this one herself. The royal family has not commented on the rumors surrounding Her Majesty’s upcoming speech, which will air in the afternoon on BBC.
While royal fans around the world wait to hear what Queen Elizabeth has to say, Harry and Meghan will be celebrating the holiday half a world away.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will miss these royal family traditions
With Harry and Meghan spending the holidays in America, they will miss out on a few royal traditions.
This includes exchanging gifts during Christmas Eve. Every year, members of the royal family take part in a gift exchange the night before Christmas, though the gifts are never meant to be taken seriously.
While Harry and Meghan will not be on hand during Christmas Eve, there is a good chance they already bought gifts for everyone on their list.
The other big event the Sussexes will miss is the Christmas Day service. Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royals usually attend church on Christmas Day at St. Mary Magdalene Church, which is near her estate in Sandringham.
The couple, of course, will also miss out on Christmas Day dinner, which is prepared by Her Majesty’s top chefs. Instead, there is a good chance Harry and Meghan will be cooking their own Christmas dinner with her mom in California.
What do the Royal family really think about the Sussexes’ snub?
Other than confirming their absence, the royal family has not said anything about Harry and Meghan skipping out on Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas festivities.
Fans, however, are convinced that the couple snubbed the Queen and the royal family, and one inside source claims that Her Majesty is “disappointed” by their decision.
That said, the official stance of Queen Elizabeth and the royal family is that they are in full support of the Sussexes spending the holidays with Meghan’s side of the family.
