Queen Elizabeth Won’t Retire Right Now If She Knows What’s Best

Queen Elizabeth has been the British Monarch since 1952. Nearly 70 years later, she’s still going strong as the arguably the most well-known woman in the world. But now that she’s 93, people can’t help but wonder if the queen is on her way to passing the throne down to her son, Prince Charles. However, if she knows what’s best, she might want to wait just a bit longer before relinquishes her role.

For years, the queen has kept the royal family in good working order

Queen Elizabeth took the throne much sooner than she ever anticipated, but by her mid 20s, she was Queen of the United Kingdom. Since then, she’s worked hard to keep the family in good working order; the royals have many rules and traditions they tend to follow, though in recent years, things have become a bit more relaxed. Nowadays, the newest generation of royals tends to bend the rules a bit, but for the most part, they’re a responsible group of adults. Yes, the family has seen its share of drama (specifically, Prince Charles’ affair and various divorces through the years), but all in all, things have always been smooth — until now.

Lately, more drama has struck the family than usual

In the past year, a lot has happened in the royal family that has created drama in various royals’ lives. There have been more rumors than ever surrounding Meghan Markle, and Prince Harry recently admitted somewhat of a feud with his brother, Prince William. Over the summer, William was also plagued with rumors that he’d had an affair with family friend Rose Hanbury, and even more recently, Prince Andrew, the queen’s son, has been caught up in the Jeffrey Epstein lawsuit and has been accused of sexual assault. Things seem to only be going from bad to worse for the royals’ reputations.

Prince Charles and Camilla aren’t what the royal family needs right now

When the queen exits the throne, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla will take over. However, the public has never perceived those two to be the great future rulers. It’s hard for many to forget about what happened to Princess Diana and the rest of the royal family when Charles and Camilla’s infamous affair was leaked. Still today, Charles and Camilla have much lower public approval ratings than other members of the family. With the royals dealing with their current drama, Charles and Camilla in the top spot seems to be just one more thing the public doesn’t want to see.

The queen should continue to rule until things settle down within the family

This past year has been a whirlwind for the royal family, but one person who has always been held in incredibly high regard by the public is the queen. She keeps everyone together, and she consistently has a high approval rating. With everything the family has dealt with this year, it’s in their best interest that Queen Elizabeth remain in control at least until things settle down. Right now, Meghan and Harry are in the middle of a tabloid lawsuit while Prince Andrew is still under fire for everything related to Jeffrey Epstein. In time, these different issues will get sorted out, but for now, the queen should remain where she is.
