‘Queer Eye’ Star Jonathan Van Ness Grieving After Cat Falls From Open Window, Dies

Jonathan Van Ness is back in action on Queer Eye Season 4, which if you haven’t watched yet on Netflix, you need to. In recent months, Van Ness has been making the rounds with co-star Antoni Porowski as they promote the new season. The two even put together a joint Instagram account and included a photo of them kissing. Suffice it to say, fans blew it up, and are desperate to know if the two are actually together.

While Van Ness has been having plenty of fun lately, tragedy struck this week. Unfortunately, Van Ness’ cat died — the second cat he’s had die in a single year — and now the star is grappling with grief.

Who is Jonathan Van Ness?

Born in 1987, the Queer Eye star was dealt something of a rough hand growing up. He spent his formative teenage years as the only male cheerleader for his high school in Quincy, Illinois. High school kids can be cruel, especially when dealing with minorities, and Van Ness was ruthlessly bullied, even to the point of receiving death threats.

Van Ness eventually enrolled in the University of Arizona to study political science with a cheerleading scholarship. However, he dropped out after one semester to pursue hairstyling at the Aveda Institute.

Now, Van Ness is well-known throughout the country thanks to Queer Eye and his comedy podcast, Gay of Thrones. The star is also a massive fan of figure skating and tumbling, both of which he pursues in his spare time. Now, Van Ness is the grooming expert for Queer Eye, helping men and women realize that taking time out of your day to groom yourself can be an act of love.

Is he dating Antoni Porowski?

When the two Queer Eye stars started promoting Season 4 of the Netflix hit, they decided to make a joint Instagram account called Jvntoni together. Fans were delighted when Van Ness’ account featured a picture of Jonathan Van Ness and Antoni Porowski kissing.

To add fuel to the fire, fans have noticed that Van Ness and Porowski often hold hands or hug. While some fans thought this might indicate intimacy, both stars are known to express affection with hugs or other acts of physical friendship, so not everyone bought into the hype.

Unfortunately for fans who were shipping the would-be couple, Van Ness took to Twitter to spill the beans on his “relationship” with Porowski.

Van Ness wrote, “Also for clarification, [Antoni Porowski] I are a couple — of very close friends who run a satirical couple account and may fall in love someday, but that day is not necessarily today.”

Losing his cat

The Queer Eye grooming expert made headlines again this week when tragedy struck, and he lost his pet cat. Van Ness’ previous pet cat, Bug, died at the age of 13 last year. Van Ness adopted two new cats, Bug the 2nd and Eliza.

Van Ness wrote on Instagram, “At some point last night while I slept my baby Bug fell from an open window and passed away,” he wrote. “I’m hurting so bad today I can’t put it into words, for anyone else experiencing grief & loss, I’m with you.”

He added, “Not sure how I’m going to make this loss mean something more but in the meantime, please make a donation to an animal shelter near you.”
