Rachael Ray Shares Why Her Husband is The Only Man She Could Have Married

Television personality Rachael Ray’s new cookbook hit the stands on October 15 and is already a bestseller. With a full list of credits to her name including a hit syndicated talk show and now a reboot of her Food Network program 30 Minute Meals, Ray remains a fan favorite when it comes to lifestyle brands.

Her incredibly full professional plate (pardon the pun) leaves her little time for a personal life, though she often speaks very lovingly of her husband, John Cusimano, of almost 15 years. Ray is often vocal of her devotion to her spouse and feels they are perfectly matched.

Law and music combo

Ray met her future husband at a birthday party for a mutual friend. “We walked directly across the room to each other,” she told AOL in 2014. “My husband and I have been together on the phone or in person every single day since the night we met.”

Cusimano is an attorney and also the lead singer for the band The Cringe. He penned the song “Burn” for Ray. “It’s not about her cooking,” he told Vanity Fair in 2007. “It’s about the way you feel when you’re burning, whether with desire or you want to be near that person and you’re not.”

Cusimano is clearly Ray’s favorite singer, and he is grateful for how supportive she is of his musical aspirations. “She’s our best and biggest fan, tremendously supportive whether it’s on social media or talking about it on the show, which is great,” Cusimano said, according to Heavy. “We’ve done the show a few times already. Sometimes people have preconceived notions if they know Rachael and don’t know The Cringe and they scratch their heads; it’s a disconnect for them. But by and large it offers more exposure for the band in a good way. Her support of the band is undeniable.”

Renewing their vows

Four years later after meeting, the couple tied the knot in a castle in Tuscany. On their 10-year anniversary, they renewed their wedding vows in the same location. During the ceremony, Ray recited the Charles Bernstein’s poem “All the Whiskey in Heaven.”

“It basically says, ‘Under any circumstance, I would still choose you and I would still be with you. And I love you more than all the whiskey in heaven,” she said, as reported by Heavy. “In knowing my husband, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.”

Why he’s the one

Ray has built a business empire around her lifestyle brand that includes her television show, various books, a namesake magazine, and an annual music and food festival. With her commitment to her career, she realized not many men would be understanding of the amount of time she has to give to her demanding responsibilities.

“I can’t give a man an enormous amount of attention,” Ray said in 2007, as reported by E! News. “And John is totally down with that. When men I have dated over the years whined about, ‘Oh, you make no time for me’—see ya! I just dumped them. I don’t need that pressure in my life.”

Ray shares how Cusimano’s understanding and support truly make him the only man for her. “You know, my husband is the only guy in the world I could have married,” Ray said in 2006, according to E! News. “The only man that can possibly exist that doesn’t mind eating dinner at midnight, you know. I mean, he’s a really easygoing guy.”

Ray’s book “Rachael Ray 50: Memories and Meals from a Sweet and Savory Life: A Cookbook” is on sale now!
