The Reactions to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s New Instagram Account Says A Lot About How the Public Feels

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have finally made the social media move: They got an Instagram. And when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex started their own account, it meant that the Kensington Palace Instagram reverted back to solely being dedicated to the Cambridge family. It had previously been the Instagram account of both couples when all four royals were living at Kensington Palace. But once the Kensington Instagram announced that Meghan and Harry had gotten their own account, the comments were very telling.

Meghan and Harry have lived at Kensington Palace since before they wed

Meghan started to spend more time in the U.K. once she and Harry got engaged. They settled into an apartment on the grounds of Kensington Palace, and once they announced their engagement, the palace began posting photos of the couple attending royal engagements on its Instagram account. The account had been mostly Prince William and Kate Middleton, and Harry made appearances, too. But with a whole new royal couple, the account had to be divided equally. People at first seemed to love Meghan and Harry, but as their relationship continued, the negative comments started.

Meghan Markle has gotten mixed reviews from the public since she married into the family

When Harry and Meghan were dating, very few people seemed to have anything bad to say about her. However, once they married, royal rumors unfolded, and opinions changed. Meghan and Kate supposedly got into constant fights, and Meghan reportedly didn’t treat her staff well. Although no “named” royal source has ever confirmed those rumors, it did change the way people viewed the duchess. Her popularity dropped, and now, among the four royals,Meghan has the lowest positivity rating. People began to take sides between Meghan and Kate rather than liking both of them, and negativity started to appear in the comments section of Instagram.

Harsh comments on the Kensington Palace account showed people weren’t too fond of Meghan and Harry’s photos

Kensington Palace announced that Meghan and Harry had gotten their own Instagram.

Once the split was announced, the comments started to roll in. “Just Cambridge,” one user wrote, with heart-eye emojis. “Kate and William finally! Meghan is so bored,” another user said. Other users commented about how they had previously unfollowed the account when Harry and Meghan were on it but followed back as soon as they heard the news that it was now for the Cambridge family only.

But the Sussex Instagram did break a world record for gaining so many followers in such a short time

Although people may have had negative things to say about Harry and Meghan on one Instagram, another Instagram was breaking records — theirs. Guinness World Records confirmed that Harry and Meghan had broken the record for least amount of time to gain 1 million followers. The previous record was set at 11 hours and 36 minutes; Harry and Meghan broke it in 5 hours and 45 minutes. While some appear to have harsh things to say about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they are clearly still well liked by millions.
