‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Denise Richards Says Ex Charlie Sheen Owes Her $450K in Child Support
Denise Richards of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is in the headlines again, claiming she’s owed $450,000 by ex-husband Charlie Sheen for unpaid child support of their two daughters, Sam, 15, and Lola, 14. Richards has publicly said the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement before they married, and she chose not to seek further financial compensation during divorce proceedings for the sake of an amicable settlement.
The two met during the filming of National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1 in the early 1990s, according to Us Weekly, but didn’t get romantically involved until 2001. They married in 2002 yet the union was short-lived, with Richards filing for divorce for the first time in March 2005. Despite attempting reconciliation with marital counseling, Richards filed again in April 2006, and their divorce became final in November of that year.
At one point during their divorce process, Richards obtained a restraining order against Sheen, saying that he had physically and verbally abused and threatened to kill her, as reported by USA Today. The couple also fought over custody of their daughters, but reached an agreement in order to better co-parent, according to Us Weekly.
What Richards is alleging
People reports that on August 21, Richards filed an income and expense declaration claiming that Sheen “squandered over $24,000,000 from the sale in his interest in Two and a Half Men to pay his personal debts and to support his extravagant lifestyle at the expense of support payments for his children. During the time frame since our last stipulation/order in 2016 he has failed to pay $450,000 in support while diverting over $600,000 in assets to adult family members and converting thousands of dollars into cash for his own personal use.”
Sheen fired back in a statement to The Blast, saying, “D and her legal posse traffic only in fiction my day in court is painfully overdue. She is behaving like a coward and the truth will prevail.”
Richards spoke of the lack of a prenuptial agreement on the recent RHOBH reunion show. “I didn’t have a prenup with Charlie. And, you know, he got Two and a Half Men while we were married, and he had a big portion of that show. He made a lot of money off it… I could have asked for half of what he made. And I did not, because I ain’t a greedy f—— whore,” she said, according to People.
Co-parenting over the years
The filing may seem like a bit of a surprise since Richards has often stated that she maintains an amicable co-parenting relationship with Sheen for the sake of their daughters. “I’m not a saint and I do my best and I’ve made a lot of mistakes with Charlie, but I think it’s best to not talk in such a negative manner about your children’s father because they’re the ones that suffer ultimately,” she said, according to Us Weekly.
The reality star married Aaron Phypers in September 2018, according to Bustle, and said her ex and Phypers have a decent relationship. “They actually do get along. And when we got married, Aaron called Charlie to let him know that we were getting married, just out of respect, that he was going to be a stepdad to our girls. They get along,” Richards said on the reunion show.
While fans wait for the new season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, only time will tell how this chapter of Richards’ relationship with Sheen plays out.
