The Real Reason Meghan McCain Was off ‘The View’ Last Week
Meghan McCain went missing from The View last Friday and created quite the controversy on social media. The conservative co-host was off the talk show on the same day Ana Navarro returned to the “Hot Topics” table. Viewers connected the dots and believed McCain was trying to avoid Navarro as the two have sparred on-air but now we know the real reason why.
Upon McCain’s return to the ABC daytime show, she made sure to note that she was absent due to her being sick.
It was seemingly a coincidence that McCain got sick the same day she was supposed to share co-hosting duties with Navarro. To be fair to the Republican loyalist, her voice did sound like she had a rough weekend.
For fans to believe there’s animosity between McCain and Navarro is not far-fetched. Earlier this season the two went head-to-head during a live panel discussion on the political whistleblower.
When McCain tried to intervene in the conversation she is heard yelling “excuse me” as Navarro was speaking.
“You know, I’m two feet away. Don’t need you to scream at me this way,” Navarro replied.
McCain was dismissive of Navarro saying, “I don’t know what you just said.”
“I said don’t scream at me, I’m two feet away,” Navarro repeated more clearly so McCain could understand her.
McCain was left surprised at Navarro’s reaction and noticing the tension Joy Behar prepped to go to a commercial break.
“You know what, that’s so rude Ana, welcome back,” McCain is heard saying as Behar sent to commercial break.
McCain is then seen getting off of her seat and walking backstage after the tense moment.
Meghan McCain explains bailout
After McCain stormed off The View set, the on-air personality made an appearance on Watch What Happens Live. On the show hosted by Andy Cohen, the pundit revealed the real reason why she stormed off.
“I will say the audience is extremely combative and it’s nice to be with a positive audience,” she said. “The booing and the heckling is a lot every day. And I’m paid here at The View to be a different view and I would like us all when people come to roll it back cause again, I’m just trying to do a very competent job.”
McCain also explained that producers tell the co-hosts to leave the table whenever things get too heated.
“I just want to say the walking off footage, we are told by producers to leave the table if it’s too heated and I get touched up backstage with my makeup so that’s what I was doing and I’ve done that like many times over the years so I don’t know why this particular time…,” she said before being cut off by the host.
Meghan McCain fears being fired
Due to the nature of the talk show, the co-hosts are expected to share their opinions on all the pressing political issues. With the country so divided, McCain fears being fired for saying something wrong.
“I go in assuming I’m going to be fired every day,” McCain said during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live. “Every single day. Yes, every day.”
When the show’s host asked her if she was ever close to getting the boot of the show, she continued to explain.
“It’s more the tone we are [at] culturally, people get canceled so easily,” she explained. “And by the way, Joy has this same thing, because we are the most honest and raw. And we’re always going to say something that is going to be too far one way. So I say it sort of jokingly, but sort of not.”
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET and 10 a.m. PT/CT on ABC.
