The Real Reason We Won’t See Donald Glover’s Show ‘Atlanta’ in 2019

Of all the projects Donald Glover has his hands on, and there are several, the TV show Atlanta might be one of the best. The FX series focuses on cousins in the titular city trying to make it in the hip hop world, and it was a hit right away when it debuted in 2016. We think the cast for Season 3 will look very similar to what we’re used to, but we’re going to have to wait to find out. Atlanta won’t air in 2019, and there’s one reason for the delay.

Fans got excited when FX greenlit Atlanta for Season 3

As we mentioned a minute ago, fans fell in love with Atlanta almost immediately after its 2016. Star and creator Donald Glover pitched the show to FX as a straight-up comedy, but it morphed into more of a drama-comedy hybrid once it got to production.

FX gave the thumbs up to Atlanta Season 3 in 2018, and new shows should have aired in the middle of 2019, but they won’t.

The real reason Atlanta won’t air in 2019

We’re sure FX wants Atlanta back on the air as soon as possible. After all, people watch it, and it’s a critical hit. The show won Golden Globes and Emmy awards in 2017 (Glover won best actor at both award shows), and it picked up three Emmy wins in 2018.

If you’re looking for one reason Atlanta won’t return in 2019, then blame the star and creator. Donald Glover is so talented and creative that every producer wants him for their projects, and he doesn’t have enough time to do everything.

“As you might imagine, Donald Glover is sort of the king of all media, and he just has had an incredibly complicated life,” FX CEO John Landgraf said about the delay, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “So I think one of the things that is just a reality of television today is you have to wait. We have so many things now that don’t cycle back on a regular basis. From my standpoint, I wish for the fans as well as for us that we could get everything back on an annual basis but, again, you just have to make a decision about quantity over quality at a certain point — and we’re just erring on the side of quality.”

Donald Glover fans will still be able to see his works in 2019, but they’ll have to pay for the privilege.

As Childish Gambino, he’s taking his “This is America” tour to London and Paris in March 2019. He’s performing at the Broccoli City Festival in Maryland in April, and he’ll play Bonnaroo in June.

You won’t necessarily see him, but Glover stars in what has a chance to be one of the biggest movies of 2019. He voices Simba in Disney’s live-action The Lion King movie. Since he’s also a musician, we won’t be surprised if Donald Glover does his own singing, too.

Donald Glover’s net worth

Donald Glover isn’t a one trick pony, and his multiple talents are helping his bank account. He’s an actor, but he also writes, produces and directs his projects. Plus, he’s a Grammy-winning musician who also does stand-up comedy. Glover’s net worth is a healthy $12 million thanks to all the different ways he makes his money.

He’s not quite there yet, but we can see him being richer than Kanye West and Jay Z someday because of his diverse talents.
