‘Red Table Talk’: T.I. Set to Explain Himself Amid Hymen Controversy
Hymens are not often discussed on the internet. But over the past few weeks, they are all anyone can talk about. It all started when T.I. admitted that he goes to the doctor with his daughter every year to check her hymen and make sure that she isn’t sexually active. The internet has been bashing the rapper ever since.
Now, Jada Pinkett Smith has revealed that she plans to have him sit at her iconic red table for Red Table Talk to share his side of the story.
T.I.’s virginity checks
“Not only have we had the conversation — we have yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen,” he said when asked if he had talked to his daughter about sex. “Yes, I go with her.”
“So we’ll go and sit down and the doctor comes and talk, and the doctor’s maintaining a high level of professionalism,” T.I. continued. “He’s like, ‘You know, sir, I have to, in order to share information’ — I’m like, ‘Deyjah, they want you to sign this so we can share information. Is there anything you would not want me to know? See, Doc? Ain’t no problem.’”
Though doctors have tried to tell T.I. that hymens can be broken in ways other than sex, the music mogul continues this outdated practice.
“And so then they come and say, ‘Well, I just want you to know that there are other ways besides sex that the hymen can be broken like bike riding, athletics, horseback riding, and just other forms of athletic physical activity,’” he said. “So I say, ‘Look, Doc, she don’t ride no horses, she don’t ride no bike, she don’t play no sports. Just check the hymen, please, and give me back my results expeditiously.’”
After the episode aired, T.I. immediately started receiving hate from celebrities, fans, and doctors.
Iggy Azaela, who was formerly signed to T.I.’s Grand Hustle Records, also chastised him.
“Unfortunately, he is dead serious,” she tweeted.
“Really I wish the women who interviewed him would have said something to him,” she continued. “He has serious control issues with women in all aspects of his life & needs therapy.”
The episode of the podcast has since been deleted and the hosts issued an apology. Deyjah has even unfollowed her father on Instagram since the interview.
T.I. on ‘Red Table Talk’
Pinkett Smith loves to bring people who are at the center of controversies onto her show. So, it’s no surprise that T.I. is going to be sitting at her table.
“My next big guest is Tip. T.I. is coming to the table. Yes indeed,” Pinkett Smith told Entertainment Tonight. “And of course, he’s going to address the controversy that has been swirling.”
“We just shot that [episode of Red Table Talk] today,” she said. “And then he and [his wife] Tiny sit down and talk about how they survived, in regards to their marriage. So that will be next Monday.”
