Reese Witherspoon’s Green Smoothie Recipe Explains Why She Hasn’t Aged Since ‘Legally Blonde’

Reese Witherspoon has been a staple in the entertainment industry since she was 14 years old. Now, 30 years later, the actress is making sure that women over 40 are still telling powerful stories and being paid the big bucks to do so.

The Big Little Lies actress has no qualms about aging. However, she does take very good care of herself. From running to a strict skincare regime, wellness is a major part of Witherspoon’s routine. In fact, she is about to return to one of her most iconic roles, Elle Woods in Legally Blonde 3 and though she hasn’t stepped into Woods’ shoes in 17 years, she has hardly aged a day.

Aside from beauty tips and staying healthy and happy, Witherspoon credits her green smoothie recipe for her ageless appearance.

Though she’s under the glaring lights on a set for her job, Witherspoon enjoys the process of aging. “I have a point of view because I’ve been on this planet for 43 years, and I didn’t feel that same way when I was 25,” she told Allure in 2019. “I didn’t have the same things to say. I’m 43 and I’ve had a whole bunch of experiences, and I can speak with a thoughtfulness about the changes I’d like to see in the world, and…I just feel like I earned that gray hair and my fine lines. I like ’em. I so prefer 43 to 25.”

In fact, Witherspoon said that when she began her career in Hollywood, she was told she wouldn’t be getting much work once she turned 40. That has only fueled her drive and her success. In fact, her Hello Sunshine production company has partnered with Netflix for two upcoming romantic comedies that she will star in.

One of the secrets to Witherspoon’s ageless look is her green smoothie recipe. “This is the smoothie I drink every single day and I have probably for like, eight years, nine years? I don’t even know,” she revealed on Instagram. “But it has a lot of vegetables in it, so I have this instead of breakfast. I have it around 10 or 11:00 and I’m not hungry at all until 1:00.”

The Cruel Intentions actress was introduced to the smoothie by her Little Fires Everywhere co-star Kerry Washington years ago. “I sat next to her at an award show and I didn’t really know her but I was like, ‘Your skin is so beautiful. What do you do?’ Witherspoon shared. “And she said, ‘Actually, I think it’s from this drink … it has really changed my skin, it makes my hair and nails really strong.’ And so I was in.”

Reese Witherspoon’s green smoothie recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 heads of romaine lettuce
  • ½ cup of spinach
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 apple
  • 1 pear
  • ½ cup coconut water

Directions

Blend all of the ingredients together in a blender. “You can add protein powder to it, you can add almond butter, flaxseeds,” Witherspoon added.  “I know it looks like it tastes gross but it tastes so good.” The best part is that if you make too much, you can just refrigerate it for the next day.
