Reese Witherspoon Teases Role in ‘The Mindy Project’ Season 6
Reese Witherspoon will appear in The Mindy Project‘s final season, and the actress has just teased the role in a new interview.
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight about her movie Home Again, Witherspoon indicated that her role on The Mindy Project will be quite small, but she’s still excited about it.
“I did a little cameo,” Witherspoon said. “We’ll see what happens. It was really fun. Mindy’s a great, dear friend of mine for many years, so I was happy to be there. Her last season!”
Although Witherspoon was previously described as being a guest star in The Mindy Project, from the way she talks about this as a “little cameo,” it sounds like she’ll only show up in one or two scenes. Mindy Kaling provided a glimpse at a scene on her Instagram account on Tuesday, with an image showing herself and Witherspoon in a cave.
Presumably, Reese Witherspoon will be playing herself on The Mindy Project. That’s not something that has been officially confirmed, but it just makes sense considering Kaling’s character is a huge fan of Reese Witherspoon. In a 2014 Christmas episode, Mindy Lahiri decorates a wreath with pictures of Witherspoon, calling it the Wreath Witherspoon. At the time, Witherspoon expressed her approval on her Instagram page.
Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling recently acted together in A Wrinkle in Time, Disney’s upcoming adaptation of the 1963 science-fiction novel. Witherspoon plays Mrs. Whatsit, while Kaling plays Mrs. Who. Kaling joked on her Instagram account this week that The Mindy Project will weirdly be the second time she has acted opposite Reese Witherspoon in a cave, with the first being A Winkle in Time.
The Mindy Project originally aired on Fox, but after the network canceled the show in 2015, it became a Hulu original. The sixth and final season will begin streaming on September 12.
