Remember the Time Kanye West and Kim Kardashian Totally Ignored This Red Carpet Prank?
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian have had more than their fair share of awkward moments in the public eye. However, there was one attempt at making them feel uncomfortable that fell, quite literally, flat on its face.
During the Time 100 Gala in 2015, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian were confronted with a falling body. Amy Schumer’s falling body. When she intentionally threw herself in front of them on the red carpet. Suffice it to say, the two weren’t laughing.
Kanye West is not amused
During the Time 100 Gala in 2015, Amy Schumer decided she needed a little extra limelight. When Kim Kardashian and Kanye West started making their way down the red carpet, Schumer decided to try and take a page from West’s VMA book and get out in front of the couple.
Schumer allegedly checked with her publicist, asking if she could fall. She then proceeded to dive out onto the red carpet in front of the couple, groaning loudly. Kardashian cracked a small smile at one point — whether to be polite or because she genuinely thought it was funny is unclear.
Kanye West completely ignored Schumer, looking if anything, irritated. They essentially didn’t address the event, basically breezing right past Amy Schumer as she pulled her theatrics. Kanye West is known to be able to dish it out, could it be that he can’t take it as well?
Amy Schumer on why she did it
Meanwhile, Amy Schumer’s motivations don’t exactly do her credit. If anything, it seems as if Schumer was bent out of shape about being upstaged by someone more famous than her.
During a chat with Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Schumer explained, “You feel like a girl at a party when a slightly hotter girl shows up behind you. It’s like a guy who just wants you to die – ‘Just die so I can talk to this hot girl’ – that’s how it felt.”
Schumer continued, I’m doing an interview with someone, and they don’t want to talk to me; they’re all sweating and shaking because they don’t know who I am, they thought I was Adele.”
“The energy changed, it felt like there was an earthquake because they were on the carpet. And I see them and they’re standing there and they just stood there like, ‘You’re welcome’. They own it, that’s their moment and they’re very short and important. Famous people are all very short,” said Schumer.
The comedian went on to add, Kim was kind of nice and then she looked at Kanye to see ‘what’s our vibe’, and you can see his vibe was like ‘I hope you die.’”
In short, it seems as if Schumer felt upstaged or sidelined, and felt the need to take it out on Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
Is Kanye West going to run for office?
Of course, Kanye West hasn’t stopped being Kanye West since the red carpet fall. If anything, he’s getting a little more ambitious each year. In fact, West recently announced that he intends to run for the presidency in 2024.
However, when West made his announcement, the audience was not on the same page. “When I run for president in 2024, we’re gonna definitely,” started out West, before he was interrupted from audience laughter. Looking irritated, West said, “Now what y’all laughing at?” The audience continued to chuckle.
West had previously announced an intention to run for the Oval Office in 2020, but it’s clear now that this didn’t pan out. Only time will tell if we’ll see West on the ballot come 2024.
