Revealed: Meghan Markle’s Thank You Gift to Vogue Contributors Shows Off Calligraphy Skills

Meghan Markle’s much talked about guest-edited issue of British Vogue includes 15 women on the cover, an interview with former First Lady Michelle Obama, and many other features that illustrate the theme of “Forces for Change.” In appreciation for those who shared their stories on the pages of the magazine, Markle sent a thoughtful thank you gift, which included a lovely handwritten note from the duchess.

Markle’s ‘Forces For Change’ issue

Markle took on the duties of guest editor for the issue, with the Sussex Royal Instagram explaining how she selected her cover models. The post that revealed the magazine’s cover noted: “For the cover, The Duchess chose a diverse selection of women from all walks of life, each driving impact and raising the bar for equality, kindness, justice and open mindedness. The sixteenth space on the cover, a mirror, was included so that when you hold the issue in your hands, you see yourself as part of this collective.”

Markle herself isn’t among the faces on the cover, a choice she made to keep the focus on the strong women featured in the magazine.

Edward Enninful, British Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief, explained: “As you will see from her selections throughout this magazine, she is also willing to wade into more complex and nuanced areas, whether they concern female empowerment, mental health, race or privilege. From the very beginning, we talked about the cover — whether she would be on it or not. In the end, she felt that it would be in some ways a ‘boastful’ thing to do for this particular project. She wanted, instead, to focus on the women she admires.”

Markle’s heartfelt thank you gift

As if being featured on the pages of Vogue wasn’t enough of an honor, Markle sent a thank you present to the contributors she worked with. The duchess gifted an elegant black leather notebook with the title of the issue on the front cover.

While that was a sweet enough gesture, Markle also included a beautiful handwritten letter, showing off her flawless calligraphy, on Prince Harry and Markle’s monogrammed stationary.

The all-female Luminary Bakery shared a photo of the beautiful gift on their Instagram, with Markle’s note: “When I knew I would be secretly guest editing the September issue of @britishvogue, including Luminary Bakery was a non-negotiable. The work you do, what you represent to the community, the spirit of the women there — you all embody what it means to be ‘forces for change’. Thank you for being a part of this special project. — HRH The Duchess of Sussex.”

Luminary Bakery had previously revealed their collaboration with Markle, writing on Instagram: “What an honour!
