Revealed: What Prince William Reportedly Thinks About Meghan Markle’s Baby Shower
When Meghan Markle jetted across the pond for a lavish New York City baby shower, all eyes were on the details of the event. The intimate gathering at a luxury NYC hotel reportedly didn’t go over that well with some of the
Was Meghan Markle’s baby shower too expensive?
Reports about the cost of Meghan Markle’s baby shower would have some jaws dropping, no doubt, as the party was estimated to cost $200,000, according to a report from Vanity Fair.
While that’s not a typical budget for a baby shower, this was attended by celebrities and said to have been privately funded.
Royals find baby showers inappropriate
Baby showers in Britain are done with far less fanfare and, in fact, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, had her baby shower in private, with little details known about the party. In contrast, Markle was on full display with most of the baby shower details revealed.
British royal expert Victoria Arbiter explained the royals’ views on baby showers, telling The Sun: “A lavish baby shower would be seen as highly inappropriate. There’s nothing they can’t go out and buy themselves.”
Kate Middleton didn’t attend Meghan Markle’s baby shower
Kate Middleton was noticeably absent from Markle’s baby shower guest list, which included Serena Williams, Amal Clooney, Jessica Mulroney, Abigail Spencer, Misha Nonoo, and Gayle King.
Entertainment Tonight further noted that Markle’s makeup artist, Daniel Martin, as well as Markus Anderson, Janina Gavankar, Taryn Toomey and some of Markle’s friends from her time at Northwestern University were in attendance.
Is Prince William upset about Markle’s star-studded bash?
Prince William might not have been too happy about Markle’s American baby shower, according to former royal butler Paul Burrell.
Burrell told The Sun: “I think William, as well as Kate Middleton, will be totally bewildered by why Meghan is doing all this, as there’s no excuse for overindulgence or excess and that’s what it seems to me.”
He continued: “Although William mixes with A-list celebrities, he doesn’t take them home with him, they aren’t his friends, they are people he works with. The celebrity world in which Meghan was submerged seems to be where all her friends are, and that can only spell disaster.”
Prince William is reportedly ‘angered’ over the shower
According to Burrell, the very public baby shower might not be Prince William’s cup of tea, as he shared this insight: “I think Prince William will be angered by all of Meghan’s lavish extravagance this week and the fact her baby shower looked so ‘celebrity’ rather than ‘royal.’”
Burrell added: “He has spent years working with the press to give them what they want but also get what he wants in return — privacy. Meghan is doing exactly what he doesn’t — courting attention all for her and her baby.”
The former butler did admit, however, that this tradition doesn’t really happen in the UK, noting: “Of course, a baby shower isn’t a British tradition it’s an American one so even though Kate had one for George, it was very private and contained affair.”
