‘RHOA’: Nene Leakes Calls Out Bravo’s Double Standard, Makes Case for Racial Inequality
Nene Leakes from The Real Housewives of Atlanta seems to be having major drama behind-the-scenes as she continues to negotiate her contract. The “tastiest peach” has not officially signed on for season 13 of the Bravo reality series and things are heating up. Leakes hinted at one of the major issues recently and is now seemingly making a case for racial inequality at the cable network.
What are the issues Nene Leakes is facing?
Leakes went live on Instagram a couple of days ago where she revealed some of the issues “the other side” were raised against her. One of the topics was that she had an altercation with a production crew member during the filming of the show.
“I never hit any producer. It was my camera guy, I grabbed his t-shirt and his t-shirt tore. Everybody knows that,” Leakes said during her broadcast.
Another point of contention is Leakes leaving the RHOA Season 12 reunion early. She noted that she found it odd that a person was not allowed to film with her anymore, which made her sat in the beginning.
“Well, I addressed that already and I addressed it again cause since it was brought up I figured we may as well address it, again, right? So I closed my computer early and rightly so,” Leakes said.
“During the season 12, I was told, sent emails and text messages, that a certain person could no longer film with me. I was saddened by that because I was OK with them filming with me.”
Leakes is seemingly talking about Yovanna Momplaisir who came in as one of her friends. The latter later accused Leakes of essentially conspiring against their co-stars to secretly record them and expose them later. When Leakes found out that Momplaisir was joining the reunion, the OG left.
The Fashion Police alum feels that producers only called Momplaisir back once she was not on Leakes’s side anymore.
“So, once they were able to get that person to switch to the other side with that group that they have twisted over there, then they were suddenly allowed to show up at the reunion,” Leakes added.
Does Bravo have a double standard?
Leakes later posted a video showcasing a possible double standard at Bravo. The clips correlate with the issues that Leakes brought up earlier in the week.
In the first segment, Leakes is seen pulling a camera man’s shirt that ended up ripping. The reality TV personality contrasted her encounter with that of Terese Giudice from the New Jersey franchise. During a reunion, Giudice got up from her seat to taunt Danielle Staub. As Andy Cohen tried to break them up, Giudice pushed him away.
Leakes wants to highlight that Giudice is still with RHONJ and they even accommodated her when she went away to prison.
On the next clip, Leakes shows when she left the RHOA Season 12 reunion. This might be due to executives not offering her a spinoff series. Why? Because Leakes showcases the last scene Kim Zolciak filmed for season 5 when she walked out of a scene and quit.
A report follows announcing that Zolciak had been offered a spinoff series in the aftermath. It is known by fans that if a hosuewife doesn’t show up to the reunion, it’s practically spelling your firing, which was not the case fo Zolciak.
Something similar happened with Lisa Vanderpump from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The restauranteur stopped filming in the middle of season 9 and refused to go to the reunion. This did not deter NBCUniversal from continuing to stay in business with her as they recently announced a Vanderpump Rules spinoff for the Peacock platform.
What Leakes is seemingly implying is that there’s a racial inequality at the network. Many fans noticed that all of the women that were given passes by Bravo were white. As of now, it’s not yet known if Leakes will be returning to RHOA.
