‘RHOC’: Vicki Gunvalson Reacts To News of Kelly Dodd’s Mother in ICU Due To the Coronavirus

Vicki Gunvalson, an alum of The Real Housewives of Orange County, left the series earlier this year after 14 years. However, the OG of the OC still has beef with some of her former co-stars that have continued on the show. After the insurance maven learned that Kelly Dodd’s mother was in ICU for complications due to COVID-19, Gunvalson was quick to react to the news.

What happened to Kelly Dodd’s mother?

Dodd has had a controversial stance on the coronavirus pandemic. The RHOC star has played down the severity and says that masks are not helpful, despite the doctor’s recommendations. Earlier this year she referred to COVID-19 as “God’s way of thinning the herd,” which did not bode well with Bravo fans.

Over this past weekend, Dodd’s brother Eric Meza shared on Instagram that his mother was in ICU as she had the coronavirus. Hours later Dodd replied to the post saying that her mother had blocked her on her phone.

“Mom has me blocked. JR said she’s not in ICU,” Dodd posted.

“Jr doesn’t know sh**. She is in ICU. I took her,” Meza replied back.

As news of Dodd’s mother was shared on social media, her fans went to her latest Instagram post to ask if it was true. Dodd confirmed that, in fact, her mom was in ICU and asked her followers to pray for her. Other fans reminded Dodd of her past controversial comments and asked if she would take COVID seriously now.

“My mom is a diabetic and 71, of course, I take COVID seriously,” Dodd replied.

“I wonder if you still think your mom’s COVID ICU is God’s way of thinning the herd?” another follower asked.

Dodd replied, “She’s not dying and she’s not on a ventilator… it’s her blood sugars we are worried about.”

The reality TV personality also continued to push her stance on mask-wearing and saying it doesn’t help.

“If your pants can’t contain a fart, you think a strip of fabric can contain a virus,” Dodd replied to a fan.

What did Vicki Gunvalson say?

Although Gunvalson and Dodd are at odds, they were once close friends. After the OG of the OC found out about Dodd’s mother being in ICU she released a statement to a blog reacting to the news.

“While I am saddened to hear of Kelly’s Mom being in the ICU with Covid- and hope she gets a speedy recovery- it would be remiss for anyone to not think about and recall the endless months Kelly has spent making a complete mockery of the virus,” Gunvalson told Champion Daily.

Gunvalson reminded everyone that Dodd has been making a “joke out of it- the virus, mask-wearing, the people dying from it, and more. Let us not forget she claimed coronavirus was God’s way of thinning the herd. If she really feels that way, then is her Mom part of the herd God should be thinning? One would think not…”

The former RHOC star did wish Kelly’s mother “a speedy recovery” and hoped she got out of ICU soon.

“Hopefully with this going on Kelly will have a change of heart with her response to the virus and how she treats people,” Gunvalson added. “Knowing her as long as I have, though. I highly doubt this will impact her to be a better person. Some people’s hearts are just too dark to ever let in the light.”

The Real Housewives of Orange County airs Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
