‘RHOD’ Season 4 Reunion Preview: LeeAnne Locken Gets Called out and Accused of Racism
Season 4 of The Real Housewives of Dallas ended with a big dark cloud over LeeAnne Locken. The OG housewife of the franchise has made cruel comments about her co-star Kary Brittingham who is of Mexican descent. Locken has repeatedly used the latter’s nationality to try to degrade her. Although she made the remarks throughout the season it was until the finale that she was confronted by her fellow castmates.
“There is something I need to get off chest,” Kameron Westcott told Locken. “When we talk about Kary [Brittingham], you don’t always talk about her in a positive way. I really want you to explain to me why on earth you said, ‘She’s a chirpy Mexican.’”
Locken claimed she didn’t remember but when Brittingham confronted her she “owned it” and fessed up to calling her that.
In exchanging words with D’Andra Simmons, she made Locken aware that her comments were derogatory.
“It was used with derogatory words, but the Mexican part was not derogatory,” Locken explained.
Locken then offers Brittingham an apology but things don’t go as expected.
“I want to say if me calling you a Mexican offends you I will never say it again,” Locken apologized. “Never meant it as derogatory. I apologize if that hurt you.”
“Thank you for apologizing, but I feel like you were forced to do this,” Brittingham responded. “If Kameron never said anything to me, you would not be saying this to me right now.”
A reunion sneak peek
A preview for the first part of the RHOD reunion was released and all the housewives call out Locken for her horrible remarks.
“How can you not look at that and see how you are?” Brittingham says in the sneak peek.
“To use that over and over again is racism,” Brandi Redmond noted.
And by the way, I never called myself ‘Mexican and strong,’ ever,” Brittingham added.
“I’m not going to stereotype her as a racist… No,” Westcott says.
“I’m sorry to say, but yes,” Redmond adds.
LeeAnne Locken apologizes for her language
Following the backlash on social media, Locken issued an apology for the language she used on RHOD about Brittingham.
“I am deeply sorry to those that I have hurt or offended with some of my comments on Real Housewives of Dallas season 4,” she wrote. “It was never my intention to hurt anyone and I will use this as a learning experience to be more aware of my comments in the future. My commitment moving forward is to continue my work fighting for equality and acceptance of all humans.”
Locken was asked about her racially charged comments by the press but she has shot down being a racist.
“Everything I do in my life, anybody who knows me anywhere around the country knows that I believe in inclusion and equality, and I will fight and die for making that happen,” Locken told Entertainment Tonight. “I don’t know how you can have that label and an ‘ally’ label. And I tell you what, I love my ally label and I’ll never lose it.”
The Real Housewives of Dallas reunion is set to air on Januar 1 at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
