‘RHONJ’: Teresa Giudice and Joe Giudice Finally Announce Their Separation and Exactly Noone is Surprised
Teresa and Joe Giudice have spent a lot of time in courtrooms over the last several years, and it looks like they’ll enter one more – divorce court. The couple, who have been married for 20 years, has seemingly announced their separation. The announcement, which comes just one week before Christmas, has surprised exactly no one. What led to the reality TV couple to finally call it quits?
Teresa and Joe Giudice announce their split
Teresa and Joe don’t seem to have any interest in remaining married, at least that’s how it looks right now. While media outlets are reporting the couple’s separation, Teresa has yet to comment on the state of her marriage. Joe, however, took to Instagram to make a somewhat subtle announcement about what is going on. The post, which was merely a picture of himself and a picture of Teresa, was captioned with “Time to let go,” he also added a link to a Us Magazine story in his bio.
While the news story doesn’t suggest the couple is getting divorced, it would seem that it’s the logical next move. It has been theorized that while the couple is separated, they may not file for divorce immediately. That likely has more to do with Joe’s deportation case than a deep desire to reconcile. While he awaits his final judgment in Italy, Teresa is holding down the family fort in New Jersey. The couple’s four daughters will reportedly travel to Italy to spend the holiday with their father, but Teresa will be staying back home in New Jersey for this visit.
Joe’s looming deportation probably isn’t the only reason they’ve separated
Sure, Teresa has claimed that if Joe is ordered to stay in Italy, she would not continue on with her marriage, but eagle-eyed fans don’t believe that’s the only thing that pushed the couple towards separation. Teresa and Joe’s union hasn’t exactly been a walk in the park, and long prison stints likely didn’t help their love blossom.
Both Teresa and Joe were charged and convicted of fraud. A judge, acting in the best interest of the couple’s four children, staggered their prison terms so the children wouldn’t be without both parents. Teresa reported to prison first, serving 11 months of her 15-month sentence. She was released in December 2015. Joe reported to a federal facility in March 2016. He was released into the care of ICE agents in March 2019 before flying to Italy in October 2019 to await an appeal for his deportation order. Teresa reportedly rarely visited Joe while he was in prison, and their reunion in Italy in November 2019 allegedly didn’t go well.
The lengthy separation would be enough to push most marriages to the brink, but Teresa and Joe’s situation is even more complicated than that. Resentment and mistrust were evident during Joe’s first Bravo interview post-jail, and things clearly didn’t get any better when Teresa visited her long-lost hubby in Italy. Rumors have it that the pair did nothing but fight for the entirety of the short visit.
Teresa has been honest about her disdain for long-distance relationships
Teresa has been pretty candid about her lack of interest in a long-distance relationship, and that’s exactly what she would have if Joe’s final deportation appeal is denied. Teresa told Andy Cohen that if Joe is forced to stay in Italy that their marriage would be over. She has no plans to uproot her life and relocate, according to the Real Housewives of New Jersey star.
According to People, an insider claims that Joe is already dating in Italy and that Teresa is totally fine with it. The source claims that Teresa is not seeing anyone, but the mother of four has been linked to a much younger man for months. Joe, during his first televised interview after his release, stated that he was pretty confident Teresa had cheated. She denied the allegations but levied her own suspicions of infidelity at Joe.
