‘RHONY’ Alum Bethenny Frankel Called This ‘Real Housewives’ Business ‘Silly But Smart’

Bethenny Frankel is getting ready for the premiere of her HBO Max reality show The Big Shot with Bethenny. The former Real Housewives of New York star clearly knows how to build a successful business from the ground up, and commented on one surprising professional endeavor by a star from the Bravo franchise.

Bethenny Frankel gave props to ‘RHOA star’ Phaedra Parks

While promoting her upcoming show, the Skinnygirl founder was asked what she considered to be the “wildest” product ever launched by a cast member of the Real Housewives franchise. Frankel noted that though the business was far from mainstream, former Real Housewives of Atlanta star Phaedra Parks came up with something unique.

“I think one silly but smart idea was Phaedra’s,” Frankel told The Cut, “when she got into embalming and a funeral parlor.”

Frankel sees Parks’ mortuary business as a service that will always be in demand.

“You know, people are drinking coffee every day, so I’m in the coffee business,” she explained. “People are living and people are dying every day… it’s not a bad business to be in.”

‘RHOA’ alum Phaedra Parks balanced two careers

Parks was inspired to start her mortuary science business after the deaths of her law partner and two close friends. The RHOA alum was able to juggle her schedule at the funeral home with her caseload as a lawyer.

“I practice law five days a week, and if I’m embalming a body it’s usually overnight,” Parks explained in 2016, according to Bravo. “It’s the quietest time of the night that you’re doing the embalming work. The funeral business is really an overnight and weekend business. Saturday is the funeral day for people of color, usually. And of course, the court houses and law firms are closed on Saturdays.”

The reality star earned her mortuary science degree in 2012. Superstar Bette Midler has reportedly requested her services in advance for her own funeral. The attorney also hopes to be recruited by one particular music icon when it’s her time.

“I had the pleasure of meeting Patti LaBelle,” Parks revealed. “I would love to do her funeral. Oh, honey, I would change her out four or five times. I would have her up like she was singing. They wouldn’t even know if she was alive or gone to glory.”

Bethenny Frankel’s net worth reflects her success

With her new series The Big Shot with Bethenny debuting on April 29, Frankel continues to balance multiple projects. Frankel’s BStrong foundation is just one of many irons she has in the fire.

“It’s an empowerment mission,” she said of her charitable organization. “Three hundred sixty-five days a year, they are flying and delivering aid. It’s a full-time job, but it’s not my full-time job. I have a child I’m raising, a business that I’m nurturing, and I probably spend 25 percent of my work time on that.”

With a current net worth of $70 million, Frankel has created her own empire and believes in giving back. Her work through BStrong helps her lend a hand to various parts of the world when natural disasters strike.

“It just makes you feel like you can do something,” Frankel said, “that you can get involved.”
