‘RHONY:’ Are Jill Zarin and Bethenny Frankel Close Again?
When Jill Zarin’s husband Bobby passed away it appeared that perhaps she and Bethenny Frankel from The Real Housewives of New York City might reconcile.
The two were extremely close friends until Zarin’s last season. Zarin was angry with Frankel because she felt Frankel wasn’t there for her and Bobby during his initial cancer fight. The two bitterly fought and then became estranged after Zarin left the show.
But Frankel was spotted during Bobby’s funeral, offering her condolences to Zarin and sharing a touching moment. At the time, it appeared as though the friends might reconcile and even pick up where they left off.
Zarin seemed optimistic
Bobby died in 2018 and Zarin was clearly heartbroken. In addition to having a friendship with Zarin, Frankel was also close to Bobby. Frankel also tweeted about the funeral too, reflecting on the day.
“Today is a sad day with a silver lining. I laughed. I cried,” she wrote. Frankel added, “I saw old faces & watched a family come together surrounding a loss. “I have a dream” that Bobby’s death makes us realize what is important & treat each day as our last.”
When People caught up with Zarin, she seemed to be optimistic the friendship could be rekindled. “I’ve talked to [Bethenny] a couple times, not on the phone [but] in texting. We’re all good. You know what? She’s busy; I’m busy. If I needed something, I feel like I could call her and say: ‘You know Bethenny, could you help me with this?’ And I did actually ask her for something and she did. And, vice versa. If she needed something from me I would totally help her. I feel like that line of communication is open and running both ways, so that’s good.”
But a close friendship does not seem to be possible
“She doesn’t have time for me, and I’m sad about that,” she said, People recounts.“But I understand it, I really do.” Zarin also made this observation about Frankel too. “I think Bethenny is very different, and it’s not money,” she said. “Life has treated her in a strange way, it’s given her a lot of rewards, but it’s also punished her.”
Even though she was sad and missed the friendship, Zarin seems to wish Frankel well. “Bethenny looks very happy, she’s got a guy in Boston,” Zarin said. “She got her own place, which is good. She doesn’t have time for me. I’d like to think that we could go back to where we were, but you can’t.”
Zarin would also love to return to the show in a “friend” role too. “What I bring now is a very different Jill,” she said. “I’m not the same. I’m calmer, I try to think first and I try to not take things so personally. … I don’t have the ego I had.”
