‘RHONY’: Bethenny Frankel Says Dorinda Medley Makes the Show Worth Watching
The fan griped that the show isn’t good now that Frankel has departed. “But @dorindamedley is on which makes it worth it!” Frankel replied on Twitter. Last week Frankel said the cast believed it was the best season yet when another fan said they weren’t into the show anymore. “Lol. The girls said it was the best season yet…I’m sure it’s great!” Frankel tweeted.
Medley and Frankel have had a hot and cold relationship. Medley became especially spicy toward Frankel during a few drunken moments. Ultimately they made up and recently hung out together in what appeared to be Frankel’s Hamptons home.
Dorinda Medley says she feels close to Bethenny Frankel
Medley says like everyone else, she was blindsided when Frankel quit the show. “Up until about three days before that we were talking about her filming schedule together,” Medley told Reality Check in April as the season began. “Yes, I do stay in touch with Bethenny. I feel quite close to her. And I was really looking forward to having the season with her. Because I think in a lot of ways we’re quite similar.”
“I love the way that Bravo, that Barry, who is our editor, addresses it right off the bat,” she recalled of the opening scene of season 12. The cast is seen receiving the news on their phones that Frankel would not return. Most acted shocked and some seemed annoyed.
“I think that is so important for the audience because it allows the audience to put a period on it,” Medley continued. “And then say, ‘This is what we got.’ We got these girls and there’s none of this … like she died. Sometimes when people don’t go back to the Housewives it’s like ‘What happened?'”
Frankel was a ‘star player’
Ramona Singer insisted that Frankel’s departure lifted a “dark cloud” over the series. But Medley said, “Bethenny is great TV. I don’t care what you say. Like her or don’t like her, she’s great TV. If we were an NFL team, she was one of our star players.”
“So … I missed her,” Medley admitted. “Do I think we don’t have a good season? No. We’re all different ingredients to a cake. Sometimes you gotta do without a little vanilla. We worked our a**ses off. We went in there knowing we had a big player that wasn’t coming back. And we had to really give it. And Leah [McSweeney] is a great new Housewife.”
Earlier in the discussion, Medley addressed the rumors around Frankel’s departure. “You gotta remember, we make our lives very public, but there are a lot of negotiations. Some private things. I don’t discuss my negotiations with other people. And to tell you the truth, I’ve never gone into depth with her about it.”
