‘RHONY’: Did Dorinda Medley Just Quit the Show?
She shared that she enjoyed her time on the show, but it was time for her to part ways with RHONY. “What a journey this has been,” she posted on Instagram. “I have laughed and cried and tried to Make it Nice…But all things must come to an end. This was a great outlet for me to heal when my late husband Richard passed away.”
Fans reacted within minutes of the Instagram share. “As if 2020 couldn’t get any worse!!!!!” one person remarked. Others wished her well on her journey away from the Bravo spotlight.
Dorinda Medley just suffered a huge loss
Medley shared that close friend and “Dorobics” partner Jon Giswold died only the day prior to her RHONY departure announcement. “Friendships are like homes, some of it is superficial and pretty and some are a part of your foundation,” she wrote on Instagram, along with photos. “John was my ride or die, my 5:30 in the morning FaceTime, my thoughts and dreams person, my Dorobics buddy, My Forever Friend.”
Cast members from RHONY and other franchises sent their condolences, knowing this was a huge blow for Medley. “So sorry D. I know he was a special give back to the community guy. A real thread in the cloth of humanity and you loved him,” Sonja Morgan from RHONY replied. Leah McSweeney and Carole Radziwill from RHONY also sent their condolences.
Giswold helped Medley host “Dorobics” at BravoCon and was featured on the show.
Is ‘RHONY’ going through growing pains?
Executive producer Andy Cohen hinted about a potential RHONY cast shakeup. “First of all, I think that we’re really celebrating Leah [McSweeney] joining the show, ’cause she’s done an incredible job as a first-season Housewife, just getting in there and she’s really integrated really well,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
“She didn’t really know any of the women before we started, so it’s great,” he continued. “And also, you know, we lost an MVP this season with Bethenny [Frankel] leaving the show.”
“So, listen, it always takes a minute to kind of regroup and find your footing, but they certainly hit the ground running this season and there’s a lot more to come for them,” he added. “And they are a group that really does see each other throughout the year. This is not a ‘show friendship.’ They’re really in each other’s lives.”
Medley had a rough season
Medley seemed ready to move on from the show this season. She broke up with boyfriend John Mahdessian and continued to grieve her husband’s death. Heavy grief resurfaced when her Berkshires home flooded, destroying a significant amount of her late husband’s belongings.
Some cast members also seemed to walk on eggshells around Medley. Ramona Singer harped on Medley’s anger, which Medley did not appreciate. “Even to this day,” she told Celeb. “[Singer] still is kind of trying to promote this thing that I’m angry, I’m this, I’m that- I think… from my perspective, she got a storyline and she kind of went with it.”
“Even when she came to the Berkshires, I was happy,” she continued. “She kind of tries to do the happy thing with me, but behind the scenes in the interviews- in the light of the day she’s trying to- I’m fully willing- I invited her, I welcome her. But her interviews are still- before the Berkshires she’s [saying I’m] so angry. It’s almost like a promo piece. It’s very sort of like of our moment in time- if you say it enough, it becomes true.”
