‘RHONY’: Has Dorinda Medley and Luann de Lesseps’ Friendship Changed?
Dorinda Medley and Luann de Lesseps were not speaking to each other when season 11 of The Real Housewives of New York City opened.
The former close friends ended last year on a sour note and ended up communicating at the beginning of the season via a cryptic Tyler Perry meme. But once they decided to put last year behind them, Medley did her best to make everything nice for de Lesseps, especially when the ladies spent some time at Medley’s gorgeous Berkshires home.
Although Medley and de Lesseps appeared to reconcile, the strong bond seen during the season when de Lesseps married Tom D’Agostino seems to be broken. Have they rekindled that friendship spark?
What does Medley think about Ramona Singer’s comment?
When Medley appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen she addressed the status of her current relationship with de Lesseps. A caller asked her during the After Show if Medley thought it was uncool Ramona Singer called de Lesseps out for drinking on the sly, plus what was the status of Medley and de Lesseps’ relationship today.
“I think it’s difficult enough going through this journey, and you have to be very careful when you pass judgment on people because God knows we’ve all been through our own situation,” Medley remarked. “I don’t want to go down the road of if she’s an alcoholic, isn’t she an alcoholic.”
But, “What I think we all have to do with Luann is give her her space, allow her to get through this, and support her in the good times and bad times, Medley continued.
Are they still close?
Medley did not seem to be at odds with de Lesseps when the show ended. But are they close again? “How am I doing with Luann?” Medley asked. “Listen, we’ve seen each other three or four times. It’s different, which kinda bums me out.”
She continued by saying she’s not happy the friends aren’t as close as they were in the past. “It brings a little sadness to me,” Medley says. “And I think she thinks I’m not making as big of an effort.”
However, Medley says she still needs her space. “But I needed to give it a minute,” she continues. “Does that make sense?”
The friendship is still strong on de Lesseps’ part
When de Lesseps appeared on WWHL earlier in the month she said her friendship with Medley was solid. “I know that she loves me and I love her. We have a very old friendship and we love each other and we just had to get through it,” she said, Bravo’s The Daily Dish recounts.
In March, Medley seemed to put more of the blame as to why she and de Lesseps hadn’t made up sooner on Barbara Kavovit. “You are going to see throughout the season [that] I’m just trying so hard to communicate with her, and Barbara unfortunately is constantly blocking it,” she told US Weekly.
“I think it made it go on longer than it should have,” she continued. “We needed to just clear the air. I mean, listen, you know when you have a break like that, it changes the relationship. So we’re working on it, but yeah, we’re in a good place [now].”
