‘RHONY’: James DeSantis From ‘Backyard Envy’ Says Dorinda Medley Is His Favorite but Knew the Season Was ‘off’ for Her
He cited some of the tense moments between Medley and Tinsley Mortimer this season. Mortimer was often the target of Medley’s ire as Medley dogged Mortimer as being deceptive about her relationship with Scott Kluth.
“I love the New York Housewives so much, Dorinda’s my favorite Housewife ever,” DeSantis said on the Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef podcast. “But whenever I see [Medley] attacking Tinsley, I get really sad. It’s like she seems so nice and innocent and not hurtful.”
He added that Mortimer seemed to mind her own business and found Medley’s attacks to be sad. But added, “I love Dorinda,” DeSantis said. “I’ve met Dorinda a couple of times, she was always very nice.”
James DeSantis thought the season seemed ‘off’ for Dorinda Medley
DeSantis shared why Medley was his favorite. “I just like her,” DeSantis continued about his love for Medley. Adding, “I like watching her on TV, I think she’s chill … ish. I like her sensibilities and the way that she kind of manuevers.”
However, “This season’s a little off for her,” he observed. “But I think she’s going through something. And you watch and I am so sympathetic to that because I do the same job in a different way that she does, because it’s really, really hard if you are emotionally going through something.”
“If you are stressed out in any way,” he added. “And then you have cameras around you, it amplifies it times 100. That’s why we love reality TV. It’s not so great for the cast, or the talent. If you have any crack, in what’s happening in your psyche or your stress level, a camera is going to make you go to the next level and lose it.”
He shares why Barbara Kavovit didn’t make the cut
DeSantis says he has met and worked with a number of RHONY cast members, including Barbara Kavovit. DeSantis and Kavovit formed a close friendship and he shared why she didn’t make cut to be on the series. “I think Housewives was not the right platform for her,” he said about Kavovit. “And I think she knows that, and I think she would agree.”
He said for many cast members, the show is their business. “And then they do different businesses,” he says. Adding that a businesswoman going to work every day isn’t always as interesting on the Housewives.
Medley recently shared she was leaving the show after six seasons. “What a journey this has been,” she shared on Instagram. “I have laughed and cried and tried to Make it Nice…But all things must come to an end. This was a great outlet for me to heal when my late husband Richard passed away.
