‘RHOP’: Monique Samuels Explains Why She Almost Quit Season 5
Monique Samuels returned to The Real Housewives of Potomac and is involved in the biggest storyline of the season. The businesswoman has had a rough season after a physical altercation with co-star Candiace Dillard. Not only that, but she is also facing allegations that she cheated on her husband. All this drama made Samuels believe it was best to quit season 5 and she explains why.
Why did Monique Samuels almost quit?
For Samuels, RHOP Season 5 is her fourth time holding a champagne glass as she joined the show in its sophomore season. No other season has been as tough for the mother of three than the show’s current one.
“It’s definitely stressful but, you know, I was definitely built for it,” Samuels told ET Online. “I’m a survivor, I’m a strong person. I can handle the pressure.”
Samuels and her former friend Dillard get into a fight that turns physical and changes the Housewives franchise forever. After the altercation, Samuels has taken a different approach to the feud. Instead of focusing on the fight itself, she wants to focus on why she was triggered in that manner.
“I didn’t want a pity party,” she shared. “I didn’t need any of that, I wanted to figure out what triggered me, why it triggered me and what can I do to make sure this never happens again. So, that is what my goal was.”
During the season, Karen Huger advised Samuels to take a step back from everyone, which the latter took very seriously. After speaking to the Grand Dame, Samuels even thought of quitting the show entirely.
“That thought actually came about, and it went even further than being a thought, I’ll just put it like that,” she revealed. “But I ultimately decided that, as long as I could feel comfortable continuing my filming and show my journey, as long as that was in a comfortable environment for myself, then that’s what I wanted to do and that’s what I decided to do.”
Samuels is now grateful that she stuck it out and didn’t walk away.
Paternity rumors are unleashed
Samuels took to Instagram to share how some of the ladies were plotting to unleash a rumor about the paternity of her youngest child. All of this happened leading up to the season 4 reunion, according to Samuels.
“Gizelle is planning to go to [the] reunion to tell people Chase isn’t Chris’s and that you were cheating on him and that’s not his baby,” Samuels said that Huger revealed.
“How disgusting is it? You can say whatever you want about me, but to talk about my child?” Samuels added. “If someone were to talk about anyone of Gizelle’s daughters or even the illegitimates from her ex, she would go berserk. To bring up my child’s name, when you know the mess ain’t true, how low and disgusting is that.”
Chris Samuels weighed in on the plot to take his wife down on RHOP.
“I don’t believe in hitting women or anything like that, but I was floored and so upset about bringing a child in and hearing about this nasty plot and rumor just to take my wife down,” the former NFL star told Entertainment Tonight. “I’m fine with the show, as far as Monique being on the show and they take their jabs and have fun, but you’ve never once seen in the past me and Monique really go after people’s kids and literally make up rumors.”
The Real Housewives of Potomac airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
