‘RHOP’ Star Dr. Wendy Osefo: Fans Should Watch the Monique/Candiace Fallout With an Open Mind — ‘Regardless of Who You Like on the Show’ (EXCLUSIVE)
Real Housewives of Potomac newbie, Dr. Wendy Osefo, quickly made her presence known during the season 5 premiere. When Ashley Darby casually called her new co-star “Wendy,” she told her, “It’s Dr. Wendy. Address me correctly, sweetie.” Fans found her personality and approach refreshing. After all, she’s the first Housewife with a doctorate and she worked hard for it. Wendy recently sat down with Showbiz Cheat Sheet to dish on season 5. We absolutely loved talking with the frequent Fox News commentator and enjoyed hearing all the tea she spilled. During our chat, Wendy cautioned fans to watch the Monique Samuels, Candiace Dillard fallout with an open mind and forget about who you like on the show.
Dr. Wendy had a ‘YOLO’ mentality when she agreed to join the show
Wendy’s biography is unlike any other cast member of the Real Housewives franchise. Born in Nigeria, Wendy received her Bachelor’s degree in political science in 2006 from Temple University. She followed that up with a Master’s in government from John Hopkins and Master’s in public affairs at Rutgers.
She continued her studies at Rutgers, and eventually earned her Phd in public affairs. We asked Wendy, with everything that she’s accomplished so far, what made her want to join the RHOP cast?
“Well, that’s really a great question. I believe that you only live once and you don’t want to look back on your life and say, wow, I wish I would have done that.
I like to call them my board of advisors, my mom, my sister, and my husband, and they all said, yeah, go for it.
No one said no. So I was like, OK, I’ll YOLO. I’m a firm believer in living life to the fullest. And so I said, why not? So here I am.”
The ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ star never watched the Bravo series before she was officially cast
When we asked Dr. Wendy if she had seen the show prior to joining the cast, she admitted that she hadn’t.
“I had not seen the show prior to knowing I would be on it. Once I got officially cast on the show, I thought let me binge-watch season four. So I could know what I need to know. But my mom actually watches the show. So whenever I have my gray areas and I’m fuzzy, my mom fills me in.”
The original cast of Real Housewives of Potomac had established friendships prior to joining the Bravo series. Dr. Wendy says it wasn’t difficult for her to join the cast even though they were already a close group of friends.
“You know what? Honestly, not really, because they all knew each other, of course, having had the show. But for me, I just came into it and I was like, I want to meet these ladies. I want them to meet me.
And I didn’t necessarily feel as though I was trying to break a tough cookie. If that makes sense? I’m a sorority girl. I come from that background. Get to know other women and starting friendships with women. So for me, it was just par for the course. It was fun.”
Dr. Wendy tells ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ fans to have an open mind
We couldn’t let Dr. Wendy go without asking her about the physical fight she had to break up between Monique and Candiace. She admits that she is not taking either woman’s side, instead, she is on team right or team wrong. She says she believes one person is more at fault, but she can’t give everything away.
“And the reason I say that is because Candiace is my girl. I love her dearly. We are good friends. I wish the situation never happened. But, when a situation like that does happen, you can’t look at it from the lens of who were you closer with or who you’re not.”
“Who is your friend? I feel like that’s how some of the viewers came into it. Maybe they already have their favorites and they’re already picking sides. So I’m saying to people, put that away, put away who your fan favorite is and look at this situation from what was right and what was wrong.
And that’s what I’m saying. What is right and what is wrong, regardless of who you like on the show. That’s how I would want people to approach these next two episodes. Looking at it from a lens of if I didn’t know these women, if I didn’t watch this show, who was right in the situation and who was wrong in this situation?”
