The 10 Richest Actresses in 2016
2016 was very profitable for several of Hollywood’s female movie stars. Forbes recently released their annual list of the highest paid actresses in the world, ranking leading ladies from around the globe based on their total income from the period of June 1, 2015 to June 1, 2016. Several notable names, including Charlize Theron, Amy Adams, and Julia Roberts, were able to make the cut with their sizable profits, but which popular actresses topped the list with the biggest paychecks last year? Here’s a look at the 10 highest-paid actresses in the world in 2016.
10. Deepika Padukone
Yearly earnings: $10 million
Bollywood’s Padukone is a newcomer to the list of highest-paid actresses this year. The star raked in $10 million in 2016, thanks to hit films like Bajirao Mastani. Though Padukone’s per project salary isn’t quite as high as her Hollywood counterparts, she brings in plenty of off-screen earnings. Per Forbes, the actress currently rounds out her income with over a dozen lucrative endorsements.
9. Mila Kunis
Yearly earnings: $11 million
The actress starred in 2016’s well-received comedy, Bad Moms, and also voices the character of Meg on Family Guy. In addition to her on-screen work, Kunis supplements her annual earnings with endorsements for Jim Beam whiskey and Gemfields jewelry.
8. Julia Roberts
Yearly earnings: $12 million
Roberts raked in sizable upfront fees for her parts in both Mother’s Day and Money Monster in 2016, despite the fact that neither fared particularly well with critics and audiences. Aside from her big-screen roles, Roberts also holds an endorsement deal with Lancôme.
7. Amy Adams
Yearly earnings: $13.5 million
After getting bumped off the ranking in 2015, Adams returns to the list after reprising her role as Lois Lane in Warner Bros.’ DC Comics film universe. The Oscar nominee also appears in ads for MaxMara.
6. Charlize Theron
Yearly earnings: $16.5 million
This is the first time Theron has made Forbes’ list since 2013. The movie star reportedly earned a $10 million dollar paycheck for her role in The Huntsman: Winter’s War. She also stars in advertisements for Dior’s J’Adore perfume campaign.
5. Fan Bingbing
Yearly earnings: $17 million
In addition to being the only Chinese star on Forbes’ ranking, Bingbing is also the only international name to land a spot within the top five highest-paid actresses. According to the publication, the actress reportedly took home a whopping $17 million over the past year. Per Forbes, much of that profit is due to her roles in local movies, including Skiptrace and Lady of the Dynasty. Though she may not be quite as familiar a name to stateside audiences, some viewers may still recognize her from her part in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. She has also appeared in advertisements for L’Oréal cosmetics company.
4. Jennifer Aniston
Yearly earnings: $21 million
Aniston garnered a sizable paycheck this year, largely due to her plethora of lucrative endorsement deals. The actress has profitable deals with a variety of companies, including Emirates airline, Smartwater, Aveeno, and Living Proof. Adding to her cash flow? According to Forbes, Anniston earns seven-figure upfront fees for her films, such as the ensemble comedy, Office Christmas Party.
3. Scarlett Johansson
Yearly earnings: $25 million
Though Johansson boosts her yearly income with a fashionable endorsement deal with Dolce & Gabbana, most of her earnings still come from her work in the movie industry. The actress has become a bonafide action star in recent years, with past roles in Lucy and the Avengers flicks. Next up, she will star in The Ghost in the Shell remake — a casting that, though publicly controversial, earned her a $17.5 million dollar paycheck.
2. Melissa McCarthy
Yearly earnings: $33 million
The comedy star also had a profitable year in 2016, thanks to her part in the much-hyped Ghostbusters reboot. According to Forbes, McCarthy garnered an estimated eight-figure paycheck for her role in the controversial movie. As for her off-movie earnings, the actress also designs her own all-sizes clothing line for women.
1. Jennifer Lawrence
Yearly earnings: $46 million
Lawrence, who is the youngest star on Forbes’ ranking, tops the list for the second year in a row. The Hunger Games star is once again the world’s highest-paid actress, having taken a sizable cut of the backend profits from the franchise’s final installment, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part II. She also earned a huge upfront fee (a rumored $20 million) for the sci-fi flick with Chris Pratt, titled Passengers. Off-screen, Lawrence also re-upped her endorsement deal with Dior earlier last year.
