Rihanna Used a Chris Brown Song in a Fenty Beauty Promo and Fans Are Not Having It

The time that Chris Brown hit Rihanna is one of the most publicized and infamous cases of domestic violence in recent memory. Many music fans felt that they could no longer support Brown due to his actions. Recently, Rihanna posted an advertisement for Fenty Beauty that featured a Brown song. Let’s look at the background of this controversial ad.

Rihanna’s Chris Brown ad

The advertisement in question was a simple video of Rihanna with some of her beauty products. The clip was posted alongside the message “Gang Gang. just me and my #GlossyPosse !!! @fentybeauty.” Without sound, the advertisement is completely innocuous.

However, according to Fox News, the advertisement featured a snippet of Brown’s song “Come Together” featuring H.E.R. Not to be confused with the Beatles song of the same name, Brown’s “Come Together” is an R&B love ballad where Brown and H.E.R. sing that it is the perfect time for the two of them to come together. Rihanna posted the advertisement to Twitter and her Instagram account. On Instagram, Brown sent her a heart emoji to thank her for the post.

The Instagram post has received over four million views and sparked considerable backlash from music fans. Some begged Rihanna to delete the post.

Attempts to rekindle the relationship

If Rihanna’s post or Brown’s response to it were supposed to be flirtatious, it would not be the first time that Rihanna and Brown were romantically linked following the infamous assault. Inquisitr reported that, in 2012, the two rekindled their relationship. Around that time, Brown appeared on a remix of Rihanna’s risque R&B track “Birthday Cake” while Rihanna appeared on a remix of Brown’s EDM hit “Turn Up the Music.” By 2013, the pair had broken up again.

Since that point, the two singers did not publicly cross paths, artistically or romantically, until last year. Complex reported that in 2018, Brown received backlash for expressing his desire to go on tour with Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Bruno Mars. Nothing ever came of the suggestion. Later that year, he called Rihanna “queen” on social media and said that he wanted her to release new music. A few weeks ago, Rihanna posted an Instagram picture of herself scantily clad and lying on a bed next to a lamp. Brown responded to this post by writing “I wanna be the lamp.” Similar to the aforementioned Fenty Beauty ad, this post sparked outrage from Rihanna fans who feel that she and Brown should end their relationship for good following their tempestuous history.

Sadly, domestic violence was part of Rihanna’s life before she ever met Brown. According to NBC Connecticut, the singer has been open about the fact that her father used to beat her mother. She recalls that she once broke a bottle to distract her father from an argument he was having with her mother.
