Some ‘Rise of Skywalker’ Fans Wanted Rey to Do This After Visiting Tatooine

She went from being a scavenger on Jakku to being the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy. During The Rise of Skywalker, it was up to Rey (with the help of Finn and Poe, of course,) to defeat the First Order and Emperor Palpatine. However, some of the last scenes had fans wishing for another outcome. Here’s what fans are saying about Rey’s journey to Tatooine during The Rise of Skywalker.

One of the last things fans of ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ saw was Rey on Tatooine

After a well-deserved celebration with the Resistance, Rey heads to the home of Luke and Anakin, the desert planet Tatooine. She buries the lightsabers of Luke and Leia in the sand, before being approached by a person. The person tells her that no one has visited Luke’s home in years, who is she?

Just like earlier in the movie, Rey says her first name. When the person presses further, asking “Rey who,” the Jedi master pauses. She then sees the ghosts of Luke and Leia before answering with her new last name, “Rey Skywalker.”

Some fans wanted Rey to say something else when the person asks ‘Rey who?’

It’s pretty clear that all the Jedi live in her now. With the help of Ben Solo, Rey defeated Palpatine once and for all, proving that her training with Luke and Leia did pay off. But who did Rey have a closer relationship with? Some fans wanted Rey to take “Solo” as her last name when the person asked her on Tatooine.

“Rey didn’t like Luke, respected him, sure, but he was [not like a father] to her. She loved Han Solo, Ben Solo, and Leia Organa Solo. If she was taking a name, it was Solo. PERIOD,” wrote one Twitter user.

“And they made it extra clear that she was adopting her ‘parents’ family name and not Ben’s by showing us their ghosts, not Ben. As subtle as an anvil. BTW her ‘loving’ biological parents must be thrilled to be disowned by their loving daughter,” another Twitter user replied. Of course, with the movie title being The Rise of Skywalker, it’s only fitting that Rey adopted that last name, as well.

Some fans suggested that because of Rey’s relationship with Ben Solo, she should’ve taken the last name “Solo” in honor of him. One Twitter user said, “if the final scene had instead been Rey alone on Tatooine but instead of seeing Leia and luke and saying she’s a Skywalker, she had seen Ben’s ghost and said ‘Rey Solo’… I could have lived with it.”

Will fans ever see Rey after ‘The Rise of Skywalker?’

Some Reylo fans took it that Rey left the Resistance and will now live alone on Tatooine like Obi-Wan, the biggest hint being that the song playing the background during this scene is titled “A New Home.” Others interpreted it to be symbolic, meaning that Rey found a new home in the Skywalker family.

Because this is the last film in the Skywalker Saga, The Rise of Skywalker will presumably be the last time fans see characters like Rey and Kylo Ren. We can only hope our Jedi found inner peace, after restoring peace to the galaxy.

The Rise of Skywalker is currently playing in theaters.
