“I’m incredibly grateful for the friendships I’ve made on Riverdale, and I will miss seeing everyone on a daily basis,” Ulrich said in a statement to TVLine. “I’m proud to have been part of such a talented group of people, in front of the camera and behind. But I’ve decided that it’s time for me to move on to explore other creative opportunities.”

There are no details as to how F.P. Jones will be written out of the drama. This season, the town’s sheriff had stepped up to become a father figure to Archie, following his father’s death who was portrayed by Luke Perry. Ulrich will be starting work on the Free Ray Shawn for Quibi and star alongside Tom Hanks in the film Bios.

Marisol Nichols also confirms exit

Following news of Ulrich’s exit from Riverdale, Nichols also confirmed she was leaving the show. The latter played Veronica’s daughter Hermione Lodge from the very beginning.

“I had an incredible time bringing Hermione Lodge to life and working with my amazing cast, who became family,” Nichols said in a statement to TVLine. “We had so many wonderful times together during the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. We really do have the best fans ever. I am looking forward to the next chapter and am excited about the future.”

There’s also no word as to how Nichols’ character will be written out of the series following season 4.

Fans react to the sad news

After news broke that two residents of Riverdale would be written out of the series, fans reacted on social media.

“At this point, just phase all of the parents out of the show and focus on the kids,” a fan suggested.

“Skeet Ulrich leaving Riverdale has me crying. I’ll miss you king,” a viewer added.

“Skeet, Marisol, and Madchen deserve so much better,” a Twitter user commented. “Riverdale is not giving them enough content. They’re such amazing actors, let’s wait and see if Mädchen confirms she’s leaving too.”

“Yikes, Riverdale will be losing so many viewers,” another fan said.

“It makes sense to write the adults out of Riverdale,” another viewer wrote. “This is pretty common for teen shows once they hit S4/S5. The parents aren’t as relevant anymore and you have to shift to college or whatever else they’ll be doing.”

‘Riverdale’ showrunner breaks silence

Riverdale will be less populated come season 4 and the drama’s showrunner is breaking his silence on the cast exits.

“Part of life in Riverdale — and part of growing up — is saying goodbye to people,” Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said in a statement to TVLine. “I’m grateful to Skeet and Marisol for their incredible work on the show these last four years, and we all wish them well on their future endeavors. F.P. and Hermione will never be far from our hearts. And, of course, they’re always welcome back in Riverdale.”

Riverdale was renewed for season 5 earlier this year. Season 4 continues to air on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
