Is ‘Katy Keene’ the only ‘Riverdale’ spinoff’ so far?

Katy Keene is the first spinoff of The CW’s Archie Comics series, Riverdale. Although it is the first Riverdale spinoff, it is not the first series to join Riverdale in its universe.

Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was initially supposed to be a companion series to Riverdale at The CW. This plan was changed once the project moved to Netflix. However, the two shows do share some continuity.

What is ‘Katy Keene’ about?

Katy Keene connects to the larger Riverdale universe through the character of Josie McCoy, played by Ashleigh Murray. The events of Katy Keene take place several years after Riverdale.

According to The CW’s official description of the series, the show follows “the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene (Lucy Hale), singer/songwriter McCoy, performer Jorge Lopez/Ginger (Jonny Beauchamp), and ‘It Girl’ Pepper Smith (Julia Chan) — as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City, together.”

The series also stars Camille Hyde as socialite Alexandra Cabot, Lucien Laviscount as music CEO Alexander Cabot, Zane Holt as Katy’s boyfriend and a boxer, and Katherine LaNasa as Gloria Grandbilt.

‘Riverdale,’ ‘Roswell, New Mexico’ and more get season premiere dates

Several of The CW’s shows now have midseason premiere dates in 2020 at the network.

Katy Keene will debut Thursday, Feb. 6. Arrowverse series DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will debut its new season on Tuesday, Jan. 21. March 16 will see the new season debuts for Supernatural and Roswell, New Mexico.
