‘Riverdale’: Will Bughead Stay Together in Season 4 After Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart’s Breakup?
Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) and Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) are still a couple on Riverdale. However, Sprouse and Reinhart reportedly ended their relationship this summer.

Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart reportedly broke up after 2 years of dating
The actors played a couple and then started dating. It’s been reported that they broke up earlier this summer, and are back to working together.
“Lili and Cole broke-up earlier this summer,” a source told E! News. “The two are not living together this season.” They were “intentionally keeping their distance from the other.” Now that the show is back in production they are on “much better terms.”
Both of the actors were at Comic-Con to talk about the show with the rest of the cast. Others noticed that the former couple was still keeping their distance.
“They were both at Entertainment Weekly‘s Comic-Con party on Saturday, but not together,” a source claimed according to Entertainment Tonight. “Lili spent most of the night with her female co-stars, Camila [Mendes] and Madelaine [Petsch] and Britt Robertson, while Cole was on the other side of the party, hanging out with different friends and vaping.”
Their lifestyles reportedly clashed
Since the news broke, there are now some unknown sources claiming to know the reason behind the breakup. It seems like they were very different from each other in the end.
“At the end of the day, their personalities are very different and their lifestyles often clashed,” a source said according to People. “Things have felt super heavy in the relationship for a while, and it got to be too much. They’re both very professional though and trying to be as amicable and friendly as possible.”
The insider also claimed that friends “didn’t really expect them to last in the long-run.” Some fans might be wondering what will happen with their characters in the upcoming season. Will Jughead and Betty split as well?
Sprouse said the distance between their characters won’t impact them too poorly
The actor talked about what the beginning of the new season will show. The couple will have some distance between them and there will be changes.
“Jughead is being whisked away on a scholarship to an incredibly pretentious prep school outside of Riverdale, so he returns on the weekends,” he told Us Weekly. “The prep school is where the central mystery is for this season and is the basis of that flash-forward, and Jughead is sort of integrating himself into an even more pretentious society of people.”
That does sound like there could be issues, but Sprouse doesn’t seem too worried. “I don’t think [it will impact them] too poorly, at least as it stands right now,” he said. “I’m sure they’ll play around with it. I don’t think we’ve established that its going to be a bad thing.”
They actually might come together instead. He added, “I think the characters are very much clinging to one another, in their last days of their high school years before their inevitable departure away from one another. So I think they’re hugging tight.”
That’s good news for Bughead fans. The new season will premiere on The CW on Wednesday, October 9 at 8 PM EST.
