Ever since the juggernaut known as Avengers: Endgame broke hearts with the sacrifice of Tony Stark/Iron Man, fans have been wondering if the character would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When it comes to Marvel Phase 4 and 5 hopes and dreams, the upcoming origin stories of fan favorite characters could possibly leave room for an Iron Man appearance in there somewhere.

A passing comment makes Iron Man’s appearance sound legit

We won’t compare this to Tom Holland’s reputation for leaking spoilers, but Jeff Goldblum is unknowingly racking up extra cool points right now from MCU fans. He recently did an interview for BuzzFeed—while playing with puppies—and answered fan questions with fervor. It’s hard not to appreciate his candor and energy.

When he was asked about his character Grandmaster being in Thor: Love and Thunder, Goldblum volunteered some delectable details that confirmed a few things. He hopes that Grandmaster will appear in the new Thor film, but added he did visit Disney studios to reprise his role for a different Marvel series: What If…?

During his chat, Goldblum mentioned that he did voicework for one episode of the animated series and this particular one included Iron Man’s character. He said Robert Downey, Jr. would be doing voiceover work for it as well as Taika Waititi for Korg. Check it out around the 11:40 mark:

Steve Rogers also becomes Iron Man

Huh? Disney+ released a first look clip of Marvel’s What If…? and it showed Steve Rogers in his pre-Captain America body trying to maneuver himself in an Iron Man suit. Leaked footage shows this was part of an episode about Peggy Carter for the upcoming animated show and it’s possible that fans will see at least one Stark character on the scene.

It hasn’t been confirmed whether Chris Evans will be lending his voice to What If…? but it’d be a fun addition to the standalone Marvel program.

When does Marvel’s ‘What If…?’ come out

When Marvel boss Kevin Feige first announced What If…? for Disney+, he explained that the stories would be based on some of what fans read in the original comics. But there would also be appearances from some of the MCU’s favorite heroes and villains, including Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger.

As CinemaBlend notes, the series will arrive on the streaming platform in 2021, and casting will make fans happy. Audiences are sure to see actors from Thor, Ant-Man, Black Panther, and Guardians of the Galaxy once What If…? drops on Disney+. Now we know that Downey Jr. is in on the action too.

With so many storylines to play with, there is bound to be myriad crossover opportunities for members of the Avengers like Iron Man to meet up with Daredevil or another character. Maybe between now and then, Goldblum or Spider-Man’s Tom Holland will drop some more clues on who’s reprising their roles as voices for What If…?
